... Antonin Scalia wrote the noxious decision on Florida 2000 that Alan Dershowitz ruthlessly deconstructed in Supreme Injustice. Here, Dershowitz runs down some of Scalia's conflicts of interest:

The rule of law requires that we obey the Supreme Court, not that we revere it, defend it, or rally around it. In a democracy no institution must be above criticism, especially an un-elected institution. I will continue to criticize, expose, and attack the supreme court for its intellectual dishonesty, its double standards, and its partisan opinions. I do not speak for my university, or my party. (I have no party, I am an independent.) I speak only for myself.
Court TV-TIME Host: You said that there were a number of conflicts of interest that the justices have...what do you believe they are?
Alan Dershowitz: Scalia's two sons work for Bush's lawyers. Thomas's wife works for an organization that recruits for Republican administrations. Rehnquest and O'Connor both want to retire, and have told friends they will only do so if they can be replaced by Republicans. It is very difficult to get a Supreme Court justice to recuse himself, despite obvious conflicts. "
But Scalia was hardly through playing the happy illuminati - then he goes duck hunting with Cheney, and refuses to recuse himself on the decision bearing on Cheney's energy commission:

Scalia's influence is as wide-ranging (and dangerous) as Cheney's, in my opinion. You have to think he's the point man for undoing Roe v. Wade, if that calamitous event took place.
I would really like to see his a** be booted out the door. Anyone agree?
