Instead of the "Fairness Doctrine" how about we.......... |
|
......just reinforce FCC laws that would require that the consolidated media divest itself of its properties and require that newspapers, radio and TV stations, and media networks of all types become totally independent and not controlled by outside corporate interests.
The problem that we have today is that our media has become owned by a relatively few corporations and private interests. These have the potential to be controlled to advance a political or self serving agenda.
Let's go back the thousands of points of light that represent the independent opinions that used to be our media.

1. Divestiture has to happen, too, and not just in media |

Face it, there are just too many near monopolies out there and they're stifling what is left of this country's economy. The sooner they get broken up, the better.

and watch them all die on the vine.
But do not allow any type of hate speech legislation , its just censorship wrapped in a "Patriot Act" terminology that will outlaw free speech.
I can decide for myself who I wish to read, and I think you should have that same option.

4. It is killing the newspaper business. |
|
People who used to buy newspapers are going to the internet, and why, because they want news not the republican talking points the republican corporate MSM gives out instead of real news.
There has been nothing really eye catching about any of the republican sex scandals. But they are constantly posting about the democratic mayor of one of the CA cities who had sex and an affair with the one of the spanish newsreaders on the Spanish channels. See why people are sick of the newspapers.
