Toiletry donations temporarily on hold

A program that donated surrendered toiletry items from Meadows Field Airport to Bakersfield's homeless shelter is temporarily on hold, shelter officials said July 12 .

The program was brought to a halt recently so that air officials could review and sign a waiver, releasing them from liability related to their donations, said Diana Campbell-Rice, associate director of the shelter.

For example, should anyone be harmed using the toiletries, the airport would not want to be held liable, she said.

Campbell-Rice said the demand for sundry items is great, especially in Bakersfield's 206-bed facility that is full "most of the time."

"People always need shampoo and toothpaste," she said.

1. Was in my local thrift store

and they have bins of toiletry items that people get from motels etc. There were lots of them - had maybe been used once so there was lots left.
Good to see the airport is not just throwing them away.
