Oh, grand. U.S. commanders sensing "some new horror" in Iraq, "Tet offensive"
So the "surge" is just putting more soldiers in harm's way whilst their commanders predict new nightmare scenarios to come...

====

The U.S. commanders in Iraq seem to sense some new horror for the country is near. On July 7, Gen. David Petraeus predicted that insurgents would lash out with spectacular attacks in the coming weeks, as the clock runs down on time ahead of the September progress report due in Washington. And yesterday Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, the commander of U.S. forces in southern Iraq, echoed the fear when talking to reporters in the Green Zone. "We're concerned about some kind of Tet offensive that's going to affect the debate in Washington," Lynch said, harking back to the pivotal 1968 push by communist forces in Vietnam.

2. The Time's About Right...

I've sorta run a Vietnam clock on this invasion. Before the '04 elections, this country was like 1966...while there was vocal opposition to the war, it was still popular and definitely not a political liability...that would change two years later. In the current case, the worm turned as the hollow claims of "victory" and resolve are being outshadowed by a war that gets uglier and bloodier by the day. In January '68, people became bored and complacent with Vietnam...after nearly 4 years of war, Americans felt "victory" was further away than ever and the mood had changed...Tet just sent it over the edge. It was a master stroke of PR by an enemy that used brains over brawn and ingenuity over whiz bang weapons. We face a similar foes in Iraq.

On Edit: Added s to foes...as we have many enemies and no friends in that region.
