Cordova pastor could face more sex charges

A former Cordova pastor charged with sexually abusing a youth at his church may face additional sex charges, officials said today. Steven C. Haney, 46, formerly with the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Cordova was charged Thursday with molesting the boy over a period of five years, beginning when the victim was 15-years-old and under the legal age of consent.

Haney resigned from the church last year after 20 years. The church is at at 8801 Walnut Grove.

The sex acts took place in the pastor’s office, at Haney’s home, and at the suspect’s mother’s home, according to the charges.

The victim told the investigators he was being mentored by Haney, and that he was given an "obedience test" that required him to obey all of Haney’s requests.
