Even watching Joe Scarborough is better than CNN these days. |
|
Wow, how far CNN has fallen. I really can't stand Joe; he's a self-righteous fool, but at least the surround him with some balance...the token gay/black man, the smokin' hot woman representing the intelligencia, the fat dopey producer; they fill out the whole tableaux like a United Colors of Benetton ad. They give Joe a place to direct his bigotry and lay his filthy cards on the table. It's almost comical to keep hearing him say he's not really a Republican. Dude is practically over there in Dobson territory, but he thinks he's a moderate.
Still, even given Joe's disgusting persona, I'm finding the show more much interesting and informative than even five minutes of CNN's latest Fox-chasing format. At least on Joe's show they spend the majority of time talking about actual matters of importance and then update the "news" on the half-hour, or whatever the hell they do it...the point is, they don't pretend the loop of a cat playing a piano is "NEWS" and repeat it every 3 1/2 minutes, while Kiren Chetry and her Ken-doll co-host preen and prompt for their next close up.
Unfortunately, I have to wait 11 hours after Scarborough ends for the antidote...KO.
Remember when there used to be news on television?

1. I remember we watched the Viet Nam war on the 6:00 news with dinner. |
|
It was very sobering & a reminder that in spite of all our problems, we were safe & at home, not in a jungle half way around the planet.
I cannot believe that the temperature/weather in Iraq is not the first thing every weather caster in America reports when recapping our weather. Such a small thing & they won't even do that. No reminders, no truth. Ignore the man behind the curtain.

Kiren (ex-faux noise) and John Roberts make me want to :puke: Can you imagine back in the day if Walter Cronkite had come on and talked about "entertainment" for most of the CBS news? CNN has 24 freakin' hours to tell us what the hell is going on, but most of those 24 hours are spent telling us about Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, "human interest" stories, and the like. For me, there is only KO as far a television news. The rest I get from newspapers and the Internet...sorry, Internets.:P

Not to say he's not gay, but I just don't think he is.
I have surely never heard that before.

12. Maybe I read more into a comment of Joe's than I should have. |
|

I took him literally when he referenced Ridley this morning by saying he represented the "gay Hollywood" crowd. If he's not gay, it sure seems like an awfully rude comment to make...so I just assumed he was gay and it was lame chummy banter from the Republican trying to prove he was cool because he had a gay friend.

7. Anyone Remember Leon Harris?? |
|
Or the late John Holloman or Bernie Shaw. What a long downhill slide it's been for this network over the past decade...since Turner sold it to Time/Warner.
I can't stand any of the morning cable shows...or the network or local ones for that matter. I've never liked News mixed with household hints or movie reviews or other garbage. For years I've woken up to C-SPAN...no matter how right wing the hosts are, Washington Journal offers a little better choice that what's on at that hour. Lately, I've also popped on BBCAmerica for an hour of REAL news...and with the marvels of the DVR, now I'll control what I want...not a good thing for CNN...a network I used to watch 24/7...now it's a freak show.

and Chris Matthews' shrew of a wife is gone luckily and no longer his partner. Leon has always been one of my favorites.

10. Joe S. is just mildly amusing enough to keep me watching.. |
|
he's somewhat less annoying than most right wing gas bags, and Ridley is usually okay. I like Mika B., she always looks like she wants to tell Joe to STFU.

13. To his credit, he does ADMIT to be a GOP partisan. |
|
He does it so often I wonder if he thinks about making another run for office, as the un-bush. That is fine, more members of the old-guard GOP need to think about wresting the power out of the claws of the neocons, but if he runs again, we need to keep asking embarrassing questions about dead interns laying around the office.

14. In regards to who they surround the host with, it's an old formula |
|
Howard Stern has Robin Quivers to balance him to some degree. Imus had Charles for many years to balance him out (At least back in the day of Moby Worm and when Imus would call up Stern's afternoon show coked out of his mind. More recently, Charles abandoned that role to the detriment of the show.). It's a time-tested formula and MSNBC is wise to follow it.
