Quote: Peter Thottam, Esq., Executive Director for the Los Angeles National Impeachment Center, attorney and former Green Party State Assembly candidate, addressed the July 16, 2007 meeting of the West Hollywood council noting:
"Today the West Hollywood City Council and the City of West Hollywood makes history in becoming the first city in Southern California to pass an impeachment resolution. Among a minimum of twelve high crimes and misdemeanors, Bush and Cheney have abused their powers of office by using information they knew to be false as a justification for the U.S. invasion of Iraq; condoning and authorizing the torture of prisoners of war and rendering detainees to foreign countries known to torture; and authorizing warrantless wiretaps on U.S. citizens for over five years. The Los Angeles National Impeachment Center, whose website is www.BCIMPEACH.com, meets every Saturday from 2 to 6 pm. We had over 60 volunteers come to this past Saturday's volunteer session, many from West Hollywood. Each of those citizens thanks you West Hollywood for your exemplary leadership today in passing this Bush/Cheney impeachment resolution."
"The time has come to call for impeachment," said West Hollywood Councilmember Abbe Land. "Bush and Cheney lied to Congress and the American public on the justifications for the Iraq war, conducted illegal wiretaps of American citizens and violated the Geneva Convention by torturing prisoners of war. The U.S. Constitution provides a mechanism to hold them accountable. West Hollywood is proud to add its voice to the growing movement across the nation in calling for a full investigation to be undertaken by the U.S. Congress," she continued.
Participants in the West Hollywood City Council hearing on Impeachment included resolution co-sponsors West Hollywood Mayor John Duran, Councilmember Abbe Land,West Hollywood Councilmember Abbe Land; and Peter Thottam, Esq., Executive Director of the Los Angeles Impeachment Center.
