And, thank you, Nomad559, for posting this vid! :applause:

(Am a semi-retired educator getting ready to re-enter the Halls of Education. Mali's words are inspiring.)

2. He makes me cringe. That guy really rubs me the wrong way.
I don't think I would want to work with him or have my children in his classroom. Don't mean to offend anyone who thinks he sounds great- just my opinion.

4. The Reason Taylor Mali makes you cringe is that he is a fake. He only taught in private schools
He only taught in private schools all his career.

Taylor only taught in exclusive private schools in places like Kenebunkport, Maine and the good upper east side Manhattan schools. He also only taught for 10 years and it is rumored that he left teaching as soon as his trust fund was accessible to him in 2000. He comes from a family that has been wealthy (a business making felt for billiard tables) since before they emigrated from the old country.

He tries to represent himself as a street poet but he went to one of the most expensive and exclusive schools in to US, and at Bowdin College his name signed in the the same student book as old establishment literary figures like Longfellow.

After a few affairs on his part, some of which have been written about by other poets, He also divorced his longtime wife because she couldn't have children and then took up with a woman a dozen years his junior.

He also gave to the Republican party in the 90's and in the 2000 race.

3. I'll put my Liz Schroeder up against him any day.
But I do like his attitude. Should be required viewing for all new teachers, or at least when they hit the first rough patch.
