Kerry: More than 60 senators support change of course in Iraq
By Klaus Marre
July 17, 2007

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) told The Hill Tuesday that he believes more than 60 senators would vote for a change in the Iraq strategy if they were allowed to vote their conscience on a measure to redeploy U.S. troops.

At a press conference on the measure, Kerry said it is time for senators not just to tell their colleagues in private conversations that they oppose the course President Bush has chosen, but to vote that way, too.

But he also noted that he is “pleased {that} there is growing bipartisanship on the issue of forcing a course change.”

Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe (Maine) and Gordon Smith (Ore.) joined Kerry and the cosponsors of the measure, Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.), at the press conference to voice their support for the amendment.

Snowe said it is critical for Congress to speak out and represent the American people, who support a course change.

“We are at a crossroads between hope and reality,” the Maine senator said.

Kerry agreed, saying, “This is the time, this is the moment” for a course change.

1. re: "if they were allowed to vote their conscience ...". Yes, and they
don't have a conscience or guts to vote for change.

3. The Republicans are spineless
lets get that straight. The Republicans choose PARTY over COUNTRY and the safety of our TROOPS. We must repeat that over and over.

enough is enough. Senator Kennedy was great this afternoon on C Span, he said we cannot impose our will of Democracy on another country, through force. Senator Kennedy you got to love him.

and he said Americans are tired of war, we should answer that comment with why are we tired, because this was an illegal invasion.

7. We could get the message out....if the republican owned MSM
would let us. They won't, they absolutely will not let the message get out over the radio and TV. And that's no accident. I think over 80% of the media is being paid off by their republican corporate masters.

5. They're going to need at least 67 to walk the talk
and FAST!!!

It looks like Bush is going to be doing political theatre written by Baker-Hamilton. So, while the Cons sit and watch the play and wait for critic reviews to be written, another six months will have passed. More time!

Intermission.

Act II will be Bushetals announcing that Iran walked away from the table. *applause!* More time! More time! Another six months with repeated bows from the White House. Encore! Encore!

For the Encore, Joe Lieberman stands in the well of the Senate trying to warn us all about the evils we face and the price we'll pay if we don't start bombing Iran in 5, 4, 3, 2...
