Hey...if we have a 'recommend" Feature why not a "boo hiss" feature too
Edited on Tue Jul-17-07 02:12 PM by Perky
I am sure I would get my share as well but some OPs just want to make you spit. So how about voicing your displeasure the same way you voice your pleasure with an OP: Click the "Boo Hiss" button?

It might save everyone some energy on rant fests or mindless arguments about whether Tony Snow lied when he said it was 130 Degrees in Baghdad or shooting coyotes in Golden Cate Park?

If you like the idea please hit recommend and givr it a kick" If you don't....welll umm errr.. sorry.

14. Gotcha
the problem is that only the OP subject appears at the forum level.

So you are saying once you are in the thread....You want a recoomend/not unrecommned column.

6. It's been tried other places; it generally ends badly.
The "recommend/ignore/alert" combo seems to be the
most WORKABLE solution anyone has developed so far.

9. Yeeah bu the function dopes nothing beyong what the recommend function does.
Although a "hall of shame" page to match the Greatest page would be an interesting concept.

8. I love this idea. At least show us how many 'hide threads' are on it.
That would suffice, and more people would use 'hide thread', which would lower EVERYBODY'S blood pressure.

21. I mentioned this the other day
The comments pointed out the end result could range from us ending up "the gongshow" where everyone is seeking negative attention (which would be bad) or it could actually cut down on "fan clubs" where certain posters and their fans habitually shoot every post off certain keyboards to the greatest whether they deserve it or not.

I think it would be interesting to be able to UN recommend but not go below 0 recommends.

And yeah, I've laid a few eggs myself - more than one well meaning post would have ended up with minus 100 recommends LOL. :)

33. Interesting stuff
I suspect it easier to give somebody a thumbs down here then it is a thumbs up... Maybe if you limited the number of thumbs up or down in a 24 hour period. it might curb some of the potential abuse.

I am just looking for a way top voice dispeasure withoug bicking up a mud bomb myself.

26. Because it would be abused
I've thought of similar ideas, like an 'un-recommend' feature, but I suspect such a thing would often turn into the message board equivalent of a cafeteria food fight.

29. We do
but at least the staff isn't poking their heads into the cafeteria and yelling "more, harder!"

I feel we have enough (sometimes too much) pettiness here at DU, and adding such a weapon (a boo/hiss feature) would only add to it

As it stands, a small number of people can get a thread on the Greatest page, no matter what kind of ridiculous claptrap it may be.
