Poll question: Conspiracy Moon Landing - poll
Flipping channels, I see History Channel is showing an old (3 years) program about claims we never landed on the moon, and that NASA staged them. I've heard the arguments and the debunking so I'm not really interested in rehashing them all, just curious to see what DUers think:

8. See you on the Dark Side of the Moon.
"... And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

"I can't think of anything to say except...
I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!" "

:D

When I was little, I was glued to the TV (9" black and white Zenith), watching every launch!

Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee RIP!

27. I was there when the Apollo Moon launch took place
and yes I saw the rocket go up as did all the world but we have to rely on the government for the actual setting foot on the moon

and I guess we will know when China lands there and finds our flag

I have a gut feeling its not there

Yep. There's a certain frisson that the human brain sometimes gets from believing things that go against established doctrines, even when it's stupid shit -- global warming is a hoax, Jesus Christ had kids whose descendants ruled France for a few years, the moon landings were faked, they're spraying chemical trails in our skies, Hillary Clinton had Vince Foster killed.

The same psychological phenomenon that explains UFO nuts' obsessions also explains much of modern-day Republicanism... ;)

9. If you actrually watch the show.....
You'll see that all of the 'questions' are answered.

It's actually not a bad show. Some of the demonstrations and 'logical arguments' put on by the conspiracy theorists are really quite funny. Two of the leading proponents are old farts living in trailers ouside of Vegas. One of them has about 30 cats wandering around. Real solid references there. :)

23. I have argued that with
people who doubt the landing was true before. What I have said is that we were in a race with the Russians to land on the moon, the Russians would have jumped at the chance to prove that our landing was a fraud, embarrassing the USA would have made them all very happy. The KGB knew just about everything we did in those years, and if they had any inkling that it didn't happen as reported they would have made damned sure that everyone on the planet would know about it.

59. Jim Lovell spoke at my college in 1979
There was a press thing before the public thing. I was on the college newspaper staff, so I was there. A fellow reporter who was the "question authority" type asked him, "Did you go to the moon?"

"Yeah," Lovell said. "Twice."

"How did you know you were on the moon?" she said.

"We had pictures," he said.

58. The CIA staged a bunch of stuff and now we're all suspicious
I would say the moon landings happened, but we look now at how innocent we were at the time of government shenanigans, and feel like it could have possibly been faked.

We had to do it all before the Russians did it. Nothing mattered but that we beat them, be it at swimming or figure skating or standing on the moon or having the biggest nuclear weapons.

Well, he thinks Global Warming is a bunch of BS...not exactly sure who is benifiting from perpetuating such a myth because he has never had an answer to that one. He also thinks Iraq should sign it's oil over to the bush puppetteers! I am awaiting how he came to that one too! Perhaps the fact that he lives with his mother, a Republican Precinct Commander, has contributed to his emergence as one only a freeper can understand. That said, I still love him and hope he gets better soon.

I'm sure if there was a hoax the Russians would have brought this up.
Of course they were real.
The spacecraft were seen through telescopes.
The laser reflectors are still there!
This drek is muttered by dogs eager to strip my nation of its finest achievement.
It doesn't warrant anyone's attention.
