McCain gets emotional on Senate floor
I've been watching some of today's action in the Senate and saw at one point that John McCain's chin was quivering, as he paused to gather himself and prevent the tears from flowing.

It was much like Lindsey Graham on Sunday's Meet The Press, but nothing near John Boehner's tantrum on the House floor.

What is it with these guys? I know they're backed up against a wall, but these crying (or near crying) episodes are just pathetic. They have no argument; they simply are appealing to the lowest emotional heartstrings of the people.

McCain also at one point said that he was offended that Senator Durbin would have the nerve to question the opinion of Patraeus. And why? Because the General was wounded in battle at some point. Oh! Well then, by all means, the General must be correct!

Give me a break.

4. FWIW, I don't think it's about oil.
It's about enriching the companies that do the civilian contracting.

7. It's about everything that turns a nickle.
Oil, suppliers of killing weapons, suppliers of body bags, bullets, bandages, beans, not to mention campaign contributions to both sides from those love war and those who hate it. War is good for donor dollar no mater what side your on.

I do not agree with Ms. Sheehan's recent remarks, indeed, I was quite offended by them.

But that picture is obnoxious and offensive as well.

Please make it go away!

32. In some cases, I suppose you're correct.
I think the motivation for the invasion was a little different, though.

We're not far apart in our overall assessment, in any case. The war was about money.

29. You don't think the US Army sitting on top of the world's second largest oil reserves
has had any effect on prices?

Think again.

31. Didn't say that.
I just don't believe that was a motive for the war.

People are allowed to have different opinions here, aren't they?

Of course. Even wrong ones.
We went there for the oil. And for permanent military bases, since we were being kicked out of Saudi Arabia.

For Democracy and the good of the Iraqi people? Anyone who believes that should hurry to New York. There's a great bridge for sale there for a song.

39. I do think oil was at the root of it, going back to the secret meeting
Cheney had with the energy barons, including a representative from Enron, where it is said maps of Iraq were drawn up dividing the take.

But I do think think the "service" corporations got in on the kill. Another most disturbing development has been the growth of Blackwater and other private armies in service of the Bush Crime Family.

2. McCain is emotional because...
He sees his entire political career passing before his eyes and he knows what the ultimate outcome will be:

He will be regarded as a buffoon, who sold his values out for some early traction.

6. I kinda feel sorry for him
He used to be generally respected on both sides of the aisle. Granted the far left and far right hated his guts but the vast middle respected him even in disagreement. Whatever prompted him to start ahuggin and akissin on Bush's behind has absolutely destroyed his career. I tend to think it was a failed strategy that he's stuck with now.

It's not just his presidential ambitions that are dead - it's his entire political career.

Sad to watch really.

18. I think it was the "Bush hug" that was his undoing.
Any man who won't stand up for his family and prostitutes himself for the very same man who attacked them gets no sympathy, or votes. The "Bush hug" was the defining moment, when McCain "jumped the shark", in my opinion. :puke: Disgusting.

...and like any spoiled kid when he doesn't get his way, he resorts to tantrums and crying and throwing a fit if he has to!

I'm sorry but govt doesn't work that way. It's kind of silly to see grown men act like that.....I would think they had all been in DC long enough to realize that.......

8. This strategy may be their only recourse...
McCain also at one point said that he was offended that Senator Durbin would have the nerve to question the opinion of Patraeus.

Wounded or not, the GOPers are going to paint any criticism of Patraeus as "anti-American" come September. Question the "general on the ground there" and prepare to be ostracized as overstepping your authority.

12. The US Occupation is about control of the ME.
Control the oil, natural gas, the real estate for Multi-Natl. Biz. Western domination of the region has been the PNAC Mission. The MIC and Big Biz is in control of Amerika and the Amerikan Empire is at stake.

11. Wounded? Patraeus must have been awared one of those Purple Hearts
the Republicans made so much fun of during their 2004 National Convention.

They should give him one of the little bandages with a purple heart on it that were such a hit at the convention.
