57. Not just the war, he's also: |
Spoken against Gonzales, voted for no-confidence measure. Co-sponsoring an amendment to close Gitmo. Spoken against Libby commutation. Very Dem-leaning in foreign policy.
He would be tough to run against, because he's sided with Dems on quite a few issues. Hard to get ammo on him. We'd have to go after some of his domestic votes.

45. He's only 60--looks older than that, though. But it's widely thought |
in Nebraska that he's "toast" in '08, because of his opposition to Chimpy and the war. He has a pro-war, pro-Bush primary challenger being pushed by Karl Rove, and I think Hagel has had it with Senate politics anyway. No one here really thinks he's going to try to keep his seat.

49. Yes--there was a Salon article on that a couple months ago--his brother Tom |
is a very liberal Democrat, and has publicly expressed disappointment in Chuck for being such a hard-nosed conservative and not giving a crap about the poor and underpriveleged in his political career. If you read it, it kind of makes you feel like you're guiltily eavesdropping on another family's private argument. It's a great article, though.
