Ugh! Reed-Levin is NOT A TOTAL SUDDEN TROOP PULLOUT! It is Not Failure! Not Defeat!
It calls for the BEGINNING of phased troop withdrawl over two years. It calls for some to withdrawl now, but only a few, in phases. It calls for the beginning of a support role and the eventual end of the military role. NOT A TOTAL WITHDRAWL.

It is the first of its kind - AN ACTUAL PLAN - that Bush has refused from Day 1 to formulate. That's what is going on here.

And the Repubs call that defeat? Failure? Cut and run? They'll follow us home and attack us here? Hardly. :eyes:

1. The GOPers will look you in the eye with a big fat lie.
They HAVE to mischaracterize the amendment--it's responsible, cautious, and makes sense, which is very threatening. Same with the Webb amendment--they turned the protection of our troops into "micromanaging" the war.

2. "they'll follow us home"... please shoot whoever
uses that phrase again.
were we in iraq on 9/11? no.
they will attack us regardless.
anyone who says "they'll follow us home" just wants to buy time while those contracts cash out.

3. Senator Hagel was so articulate on that, a third grader would have
understood it. The BEGINNING of a phased troop withdrawl over two years....I wish it were less time, the point is it goes against BUSH!!! He finds that intolerable (or Cheney) take your pick..

4. This war costs us 3 billion a WEEK....
That money is going somewhere. It's going to defense corporations, it's going to contractors, it's going to Cheney's pals, it's going to Bush's pals. If we close the spigot too quickly, what will these people who have been living so wealthy off our taxes DO? I don't doubt that Democrats also are protecting these receivers of this money, by not pulling out too quickly. They, too, are beholden to corporations like those for the money required in this country to run for office. I'm so F sick of the corruption!!

Anyway, that's all I have to say, that the 3 BILLION a WEEK it's costing us is too sweet for all those receiving it, and to shut it off now would leave them high and dry and without their beluga for breakfast.

5. good point! because that damn pothole...
because that damn pothole down the street from my house STILL hasn't been fixed...
it's kind of discouraging to pay so much in taxes and not even know where that money is going.
it's certainly not being used to help us.

6. heh. Back in 03 when I heard they were ending socialism and the Baathists in Iraq, I thought

gosh, what will all those people who have been getting a govt check DO?

Nobody who's making millions off the collapse of Iraq ever thought about those people, those families. They just wanted what they wanted and screw anybody who gets in the way.

Don't they deserve the same thing in reverse?
