IMHO,

To force the issue into the Supreme Court where a judgment will be made by the lunatic rightwing fringe judges that will rule in favor of the Executive, thus granting this President dictatorial powers that were never intended by the framers of the Constitution.

So what will we see?

The Democrats will allow this ignoring of subpoenas in order to salvage what's left of the Constitution and its separation of powers clauses.

The inmates are running the asylum.
