And did he indicate how we would stop ethnic hatred between Shiites and Sunnis by continuing to have our troops serve as police, security guards, and human shields between the two sides by staying there forever? If we leave Iraq 5 years from now, will cross-ethnic conflict have stopped by then, or will we face the same thing?

This is the same old argument I heard about Vietnam, that we can't pull out because it will leave a bloodbath behind, but by staying we were also creating a bloodbath anyway.

You can tell the Rethugs who are just parroting Bush/Cheney's line. They KNOW this is a disaster, but they'll do whatever Bush and Cheney tell them to do just like good little Bushbots.

Then there are those who really do believe in this war, but not to bring democracy or stability or hope to the Iraqi and Afghanistani people. They want to make money - either for themselves or their corporate masters. They don't care how many American soldiers or civilians die. It's about greed and these folks will never vote against this war. Never.

Then there's the fanatical group of Rethugs. They want to re-fight Vietnam. They want to "prove" themselves "winners." It's personal for them. They can't stand the thought of retreat or being branded as a "loser." You can count McCain as one in this camp.

And there's the final group of Republics. They know this war is a mistake and they may be up for re-election in '08. They don't see a military solution solving this problem and may be thinking about what happened to moderates like Lincoln Chafee. These are the ones we need to flip.
