after watching nearly 8 hours of the Senate last night
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 10:24 AM by LSK
Its the same old GOP smorgasbord of red herrings, straw men, lies, distortions, impossible worse case scenarios and hiding behind the flag. The only Senators who made some sense was Hagel, Snowe and Lamar Alexander to some extent.

Lieberman, DeMint, McCain, Cornyn, Coburn were just a few of the Senators who tried to predict that if we leave that Iran would suddenly march across the entire middle east with its armies, Al Queda would slaughter millions of Iraqis and the world would basically end.

This is the same GOP that we have watched for the past 6 years of kissing Bush's ass.

After watching this train wreck of Republican stupidity, I do not see how this amendment will pass, I do not see how any bill will get 60 votes to cloture and I do not see how 67 votes would appear for impeachment or overriding any veto.

I don't see how any solution can be done to getting out of Iraq short of passing a defense budget of $1 and that scenario is not realistic.

The only other solution is impeachment proceedings but those are sure to take a year and meanwhile the war will continue to rage.

I just don't know.

1. Haven't been able to watch much after midnight. What happened to the simple majority
that Reid was trying to maneuver?

3. everytime a Dem would move to that vote a Repuke would object
So it would not come about.

So now we have a failed cloture vote happening.

2. The republicans don't want to be known as
"flip-floppers" and will never change their mind. How sad is that :banghead:

Now back to our regular DU program of Dem bashing......!

4. after an all night marathon, the vote fails 52-47

5. Refresh my memory. Isn't cloture automatic if the Republican fail to keep the
filibuster going? If Republicans fail to keep a quorum or if they can no longer maintain the speechifying (isn't that a bushism?), doesn't that end the debate and bring the issue at hand to a vote?

6. no
Reid was actually forcing a quorum a couple times during the night.

Cloture votes are cloture votes.

The only other way to get the vote was for a Dem to propose a straight up and down vote without a Repuke objecting.
