Michael Vick Indicted Over Alleged Dogfighting
RICHMOND, Va. - NFL star Michael Vick was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday on charges of sponsoring a dogfighting operation so grisly the losers either died in the pit or sometimes were electrocuted, drowned, hanged or shot.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback and three others were charged with competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting and conducting the enterprise across state lines.

The operation was named "Bad Newz Kennels," according to the indictment, and the dogs were housed, trained and fought at a property owned by Vick in Surry County, Va.

1. Vick & Co. are sick bastards
I hope they all rot in jail for this and enjoy paying the $350,000.00 fine! I hope the NFA dumps him as well. If they have a brain they will! :grr: :grr: :grr:

6. The sickest part is that he sure as hell didn't need to do it for money.
:grr:

Lock him in a room and throw away the room.

3. If he's found guilty I hope he ends up doing time..
only a sick and depraved person would try to make money this way. If this turns out to be true, I'm really sorry that Michael Vick was not able to use his talents and obscene amounts of NFL money in a more constructive way.

At any rate, thus far he hasn't explained himself very well so I'm done with him.

5. On Animal Channel, people found with much less evidence are
quickly found guilty.

It is a shame that such quick justice cannot be meted out for the same depravity in one who is rich and famous.

8. That bastard. He deserves to lose his career and go to jail if it's true.
This deserves a repeat post to show people how great pit bulls are. Look at the pics and see what loving babies they are when treated right...

Pit bulls are the sweetest dogs in the world when treated right. I have one. I had her brother too until he died from an enlarged heart. And boy, he had the biggest heart of any dog I've ever known. That was the greatest dog I've ever had. I love his sister just as much but he was really emotionally evolved. And I'm so glad I have my Ruga, she's a real snuggler and a total goofball, making me laugh at least a half dozen times every day.

What a shame the way people treat these spectacular and loving dogs:

Chocolate Ice-cream Face (ChIF). 100% Sweetness. May he RIP:

:sarcasm:

I was just reading a comment board on msnbc.com ,an article that says he should be banned for life from the NFL. A commenter said his real crime was knowingly passing herpes around. What an asshole, whether that part's true or not.

32. Hampton Roads ain't the sticks
Vick grew up in Hampton and lived in what may be referred to as a suburban ghetto. Not as rough as the neighborhood that Allen Iverson grew up in, but less than three miles away. The house where all the incidents occurred is in Surry County, which IS the sticks, about 30 minutes from the major metro area. They went there to avoid getting caught. Dog fighting rings are broken up around here all the time in Virginia Beach and Norfolk especially.

Then again, I live in Atlanta and we get stories of Michael Vicks' bad behavior every other month or so it seems.

I hope this story brings more attention to the fact that this is not acceptable in our society and it needs to stop. I'm sick of this activity being glorified.

33. It is a serious problem. The Humane Society estimates 40,000 people are involved in this
sub-culture and it cuts across all socio-economic levels. And why is it a problem to the average person? Because the behavior is barbaric and cowardly at the same time. Because the dogs, who know no better, are dangerous and if they escape whatever cage, fence or leash their owners use they can harm or kill other animals and people.

I just watched an Animal Precint story last night about these illegal rings. Its horrific what happens to these dogs.

Why don't these losers just fight themselves and kill themselves? good riddance in IMO which is harsh but I don't really fucking care.

24. This Story is Disturbing on so many Levels
A guy whose performance on the field at times leaves a lot to be desired is alleged to have approved or meted out death sentences to animals whose performances on the field left a lot to be desired.

A guy who has $130 million dollar contract is taking part in dog matches in which a lot of the times the pot was $1,000 dollars or less. So it was more about the bloodlust than the money. He has probably risked his entire career on fights that earned him less than he probably earns on a single game day. Yeah he's a great decision-maker :sarcasm:

The level of depravity and cruelty detailed as part of the indictment is just disgusting. Most decent people knows that dog fighting is an an absolutely abhorrent act. But most of us really don't know much about the sordid details because, quite frankly, we aren't involved in it and don't know people who are. I have 3 dogs and the thought of someone soaking one of them with water and then electrocuting is just stomach turning.

And now we have people who are saying that this is a racial issue. I'm Black. I also own dogs and if he was involved at the level they allege he was, then I hope they throw him under the jail and let him rot. I think you measure a society on how it treats the weakest and most vulnerable members. I read the comments about this case in the AJC:

http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/town-talk/entries/2007/07/17/whats_next_in_t.html

And there are people who are saying this is a case of White society gunning for a rich Black athlete. Keep in mind, that they never express any sympathy for the animals who were put to death or express the opinion that, even if he didn't do anything, that he's awfully stupid to put himself in a position to be smeared like this. Nope no cupability for Mr. Vick at all. It's persecution. After the cruelty shown to the animals, I think this knee jerk "Vick's being set up" line is just as disgusting because it undercuts those cases like Genarlow Wilson and many others when race definitely is a factor.

35. BronxBoy - thanks so much for posting this.
Seriously, I'm glad you did because I live in Atlanta and I can just see how this is going to go down as black vs. white. I hope I don't sound racist when I say it's good to see a black man speak up the way you have. This is so well-written. I hope you'll consider maybe writing a letter to the editor of the AJC because your voice should be heard.

As a dog owner, this really got me "I have 3 dogs and the thought of someone soaking one of them with water and then electrocuting is just stomach turning" because dogs are so loyal to their owners and the idea of betraying that loyalty, even when the dog has essentially only been used as a fighting machine, is just heart wrenching.

28. See, it's a good thing I am not a judge...
because cases like this tend to bring out the worst in me. Left your kid in a car on a scorching day? Sentance: you get to stay in a scorching car for several hours with no windows open, jackass.

If what is alleged about Vicks is true, I would recommend a few hours in a ring with some of those dogs, followed by a bath and some electroshocks for fun.

Who is the REAL "animals", Mr. Vicks? In my book, it sure as heck aren't the dogs you abused...
