Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 12:48 PM by Wiley50
Bruce Fein said on Hartmann today that even Julius Ceasar didn't grab as much power as Bush has.

When he triggers Presidential Directive 51
I'm sure only well controlled TV and radio will still be operating
They know we'll organize resistance if they let the internet survive

They'll turn it off in the US

But Commander AWOL has the Blackwater mercenary Praetorian Guard
As long as he keeps paying this Christofacist WAR profiteering Army, they will do his bidding unquestioningly. They take no oath of allegience to the USA or the Constitution only to the paymaster (who is funneling our tax dollars into this republicon crony operation)

48. well i'll say one thing for mr julius caesar
often when he invaded a country he actually won the war and added another source of wealth to his empire

* by contrast couldn't win a war out of a paperbag and the usa as an "empire" is a pitiful joke, we couldn't beat the vietnamese, hmm, north korea is still doing fine after 50-plus years, can't even make a decisive win in freaking afganistan much less iraq

*'s ambitions may be larger than caesar's because the world is larger but in no way does he have anywhere near the success or power

there will be no month of "bush" coming to a calendar near you

5. TV Thriller
That would make a cool movie. Internet goes dark around the world. No one can figure out why. Interesting premise. Not going to happen, but maybe you can work on a script.

As I've said before, dollars to donuts Bush will leave office in January 2009 just like he's supposed to. Let's leave the conspiracy theories to the whackos who think LBJ secretly had Kennedy killed.

We have to deal with reality if we're going to make a difference.

22. Dude, relax.
The internet is more than just a meeting place for liberals, ya know. Conservative groups, neo-nazis, pedophiles, etc. all meet over the internet and exchange ideas. Plus, a staggering amount of business is conducted over the internet. you REALLY think that Bush will shut down all that lucrative money-makin' for a symbolic power grab that would only backfire?

Paranoia, like cocaine, is a hell of a drug.

In any event, I DO think it's a good idea to "get out" more and "meet" other "people" in "real life." Sitting in front of the pooter screen all day will give you a skewed perception of reality.

Somebody should do a thread about all the conspiracies discussed here that didn't come to fruition including the "canceled" 2002, 2004, and 2006 elections...

George Bush* will leave office on 1/20/09 and hopefully be replaced by a sane leader... That is how it has been for over two hundred years and I don't see it changing...

31. good post Wiley and a fear I've held for a long time.
Going to reference a couple things I've written that relates if I may, first a poem

Veterans of waging peace we need you.
You who stopped a war before.
Teach us.
Push us to feats of bravery and truth.
Show us where to stand so we'll be seen.
Paint our signs for us with magic words of justice
March with us if you are able.
In spirit and support if not.
We need to rally the rich that believe
Money is power. Money can buy the media. Money can get us heard.
Hopefully votes will get us heard
November 2006 is my line in the sand.
If things haven't changed after that?
I aim to misbehave.
No peace without justice.
Feed us your fire and your wisdom and we will pay it forward.

Now a pledge I made a while back

45. You'd have to explain the basis of your fear... to me it makes no sense
The internet is a conglomeration of various government, military, and private networks that all agree to use one protocol to talk to each other and pass along information, and have a system in place to reroute traffic if a route is cut off.

The internet is much like a whole pile of spiderwebs stacked on top of each other; it's not like you can pull the plug and turn off the internet.

You cut off major portions of the internet, and you disable businesses from functioning. A lot of these companies have phone service basically over VOIP - and we're talking HUGE companies. They're not going to do that.

The way these folks work is to own something and make up their own rules. That's how they do it. This is the big reason net neutrality is such a big issue.
