We received word today that Gen. Wayne A. Downing has died. Downing was a brilliant warrior, a true patriot and a great friend. He was also a trusted adviser to NBC News. We will have more here on General Downing's life and career, but in the meantime we wanted to share these photos with you.

RIP General Downing.

1. I think he was a Neo-Con.
He always supported this war.

I also think there was bad blood between Downing and Wes Clark. They were on MEET THE PRESS a while back and they were literally glaring at each other. Downing was predicting a rosey scenario. Clark was predicting a civil war.

This was in the summer of 2005.
