All the talk about College Loans in the Senate |
|
Makes me wish I could figure out a way to get my student loans out of default, so I could continue my degree.

1. Yet another thing America does wrong. |
|
Do you know any Europeans or Canadians struggling with student loan debt well into adulthood?

6 years ago what would happen. I wouldn't have taken the loans.

3. For many of us, there is no other way. |
|
I got through college with very little debt because I went to a state school a long time ago and worked my way through. State schools now are outrageously expensive. I borrowed money for grad school. Had to change fields to pay it back, ironically.

4. You can get them out of default. I remember an old neighbor |
|
mentioning it. I think you contact the lender and make
some on-time payments
I'm sure if you spent some time with the Google, you could figure it out
I think they never go away, so it is better to deal with it

5. Contact the lender or guarantor about that. Usuaully it requires making payments ... |
|
for up to one year on time. The good news is the payments are usually quite a bit smaller than the regular payments.

6. Yup- I followed advice above |
|
I found out a lot. If I pay their amount (which is impossible for me atm) for 9 months the loan will come out of default.
It's a catch 22. My two year college is holding my transcripts hostage until I am out of default. I need the training/degree to work to make money to pay it.
I'll keep on plugging until I figure it out. I do not see fall classes in my future though.
Thanks for the tips.

7. "Hostage" is the word. This is what our debt-controlled society is doing for us. |
|
It's worse than debtors' prison, by a long shot.
I hope you find a way around it. It sounds like you are dealing with a more complicated situation than I have experience with.
