Man guilty of abducting mom, leaving daughter to alligators
A man who had been released from prison early for good behavior was convicted Tuesday of trying to kill a young mother and leaving her 5-year-old daughter to be eaten alive by alligators in the Everglades.

Harrel Franklin Braddy had befriended Shandelle Maycock and her daughter Quatisha. Maycock testified that Braddy went to her home in November 1998 and grew enraged when she asked him to leave.

He choked Maycock until she was unconscious and then forced her and Quatisha into his car, the woman testified. At one point, Maycock gained consciousness, grabbed the child and jumped out of the moving vehicle.

Braddy stopped, choked the woman again and put her in the trunk, she testified. Maycock never saw her daughter again. Prosecutors said Braddy then drove to a section of Interstate 75 in the Everglades known as Alligator Alley and dropped Quatisha in the water beside the road.

6. Save the tax payers money.
The cops could stick him in the car and drive him to Alligator Alley...."Oh gosh, he like ran away from us and went spashing in the water. We didn't see the point of shooting him and he just ran splashing in the water when we heard a scream and big snapping sound."

4. I'm So Sorry To Hear That. I Hope He's Ok, The Poor Guy.
I can only imagine what kind of abuse and hardships he's suffered throughout his life that would lead him down such a path. I hope they get him the mental help and emotional support he needs.

:sarcasm:

7. Good behavior needs to keep being practiced after getting out of prison
It isn't enough to act good in the joint.

8. It happened in 1988....
The trial had been delayed for nearly nine years because Braddy has fired several attorneys and represented himself at one point. His attorney, G.P. Della Feram, declined to comment.

Quite a long delay!

9. we had a story here in Madison of a woman who killed her child
she already had one child, she could handle that... but the second one was too much...so she tortured it to death...over a period of months, with the father in the home.

13. Early release for good behavior
after serving "13 years of a 30-year prison sentence for attempted murder"

How "good" do you have to be to be released 17 years early after trying to kill someone?

We overuse our prisons but releasing the violent early is never the answer.

A fine line between murder and attempted murder...you just didn't do a good job at the murder. It isn't less serious in intent.

Let out the people with no victim crimes...drugs, prostitution...first before you move to other things. But people who kill or try to kill should not be included in early release.
