Woo HOO! No grocery store strike in So Cal!!!
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-grocer18jul18,1,124157.story?coll=la-headlines-business

Fears of a supermarket strike this summer in Southern and Central California evaporated Tuesday when the region's largest grocery chains and the union representing 65,000 store employees reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year contract.

The accord would make up some of the ground the United Food and Commercial Workers union lost in a bitter, lengthy walkout and lockout 3 1/2 years ago.

"We have recovered a lot without a strike," said Rick Icaza, president of UFCW Local 770 in Los Angeles. "I think our members will overwhelmingly accept this. The wage increase and improvement in health plan benefits are significant."

:woohoo:

1. On a personal note
one of the local managers was NOT a happy camper when she heard me tell a union member that if they went on strike, I will NOT cross the lines. Will have to get my food somewhere else. The Manager actually clinched fists.

2. We talked to the clerks every week
and told them we were supporting them.

They were very grateful.

6. I will not cross the picket line
I know many of the clerks in the market and I would've been ashamed to have them see me cross while they were picketing out front. I went to smaller markets and places like Costco the last time.

I hope this deal is better for the workers cause after the last strike they got screwed. I have had many of the clerks I know tell me they got a lousy deal the last time.

3. That's good news.
I never crossed the picket line last time, but it was a real pain running all over town to get groceries.

5. I just talked to my son, a "Vons" employee.
And he is very happy about not having to walk a line.

8. Thank god
I am so glad this strike isn't going to happen.

I really care about the clerks at our local Pavillions. They are so nice and work their butts off.

My brother ..... RIP .... was a Von's worker for years. I'll always support the union and so does my family.
