I don't have a single friend
Democratic, that is, who likes Hillary. The Republicans I know absolutely positively despise
her. I haven't seen any overwelming support here.

Now, I'm not saying I have tons of friends, but it's all relative, isn't it? Who the heck
is supporting her in such strong numbers?

Are we here so on the fringe of our party? So off the radar?

11. I would have to say almost everyone I know would vote for
him - no contest. In fact I did a poll here and he overwelmingly led.

It's really sad that he choses not to get in - he won once and he's
even better now. He'd surely win in a landslide - at least lead
enough to cover the fraud spread. Plus, the added bonus - we'd
start on the to save our planet !

4. She's The Best Chance The Repubs Have Probably
It will make for the "horserace" and close election, the media wants in 2008. They don't want a landslide, they want it to come down to a state or two.

Hillary is the best chance for this, and would give the repubs a fighting chance.

The LAST thing they want is Al Gore, because he would probably win by a significant margin, were he to run.

i live in the south, in louisiana and spend a lot of time in mississippi, plus have friends from arkansas, so maybe it's inevitable that i hear things differently from you

my impression is -- bill is a winner, and hillary will be a winner

al gore screwed up when he distanced himself from bill over monica hysteria, he let the race get neck and neck, allowing the dark side to cheat

there are whackjobs who don't like hillary no question but the same whacks don't like al gore any better

79. My theory
I believe that most voters identify with a political party but aren't particuarly informed on what the heck is going on. That is why name recognition is so important.

That's what HRC, imo, has going for her: uniformed Democratic voters who recognize her name.

for instance in a casino in tunica, mississippi, which attracts a large crowd from tennessee and sometimes a few from arkansas, you can easily get a discussion going and find a ton of people who support her and will say things similar to bartcop of "i miss bill" and that sort of thing, i have listened in on that sort of talk

i think she is viewed as a reasonable person which would be something of a relief after the last few years...

22. I've asked that question many times...
Even on DU straw polls, she is usually in the 5-7 spot.

I also have no DEM friends who support her; I've often wondered if this is just another case of the tail wagging the dog with the MSM filtering and/or promoting all those polls that put her 12-15% ahead of 2nd place Obama. State to state she runs differently - I know Edwards is strong in Iowa, Obama in S.C.

Her funding machine has very deep corporate pockets --- also check out Sicko to see who else she gets $$$ from!

Either we on DU live in an alternative universe, or HRC support is being overplayed by the media. I am as baffled as you by the "who" that support her???

And since you seem to want to preach to others how they should've responded to things, how bout looking in the mirror. Maybe a "I've noticed that most of them seem to be older men. Is he an older man too?" would've been a bit more tactful and less foolish. :hi:

say he slept in law school and the professor would wake him up and
ask him a question and he would answer it correctly.

And you know after running himself, twice, he had probably had the
demographics and numbers of every precinct stored in his head.

I betcha the both of them figured it out immediately and used it
to their advantage - she, to realize her dream to be prez - he,
to keep her happy, maybe repay her in some way, and also to give
him a chance to relive his presidency.

swing some votes - "vote for the winner" theory. But not a tremendous number. Trouble
is, there is no real super star below her - unless Obama studies every day and every
night - his lack of depth is apparent to me - but that's my humble opinion. Edwards?
Don't think so. If he was going to get a groundswell, he would have gotten by now.

Gore's probably the only one who could challenge her and beat her.

Man, I wish Clark would run. Maybe he's got a secret pact with someone to be VP?

Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 07:38 PM by nolabels
Like day after day i pick up the daily local newspaper and get amazed about how much it is slanted. I don't doubt for a minute they would like push HRC on the rest of us. Just like i was quite sure that is what they did with J.K. I suffer no intended deceptions lightly. Your handicapping the field does sounds correct except that the field is in such flux. A little move could sway but not likely. It will probably be who edges who in the first couple primaries and thank goodness there is going to be so much front loading of it this time.

All those states chomping at the bit to be much earlier could be tricky but it will leave much less time for those in the c.c.m. to manipulate. The good news for our county is it looks like we are going back to paper ballots.

Hoping that we all can get news :hi:

46. I have one friend who does
She's the only one anymore the rest don't want her to win the nomination. A couple of them were leaning her way but they've since changed their minds.

The people I know who are fixated on her are all republican.

49. It's a mystery. None of the Democrats I know likes her.
Mostly they like Obama, but some prefer Edwards (I'd like either one of the two).

53. She is not my first choice, but I will support the Democratic nominee.
Some DUers take issue with the constant "Hillary sucks" drumbeat.

56. Yes, and that's why I didn't trash her - just trying to address the
facts - that it doesn't appear that many people support her and that doesn't
jive with the polls.

Personally, hell yes, I'd vote for her over a thug - but now, I can't imagine
my heart would be in it. For a long time, I thought I wouldn't jump off a
bridge if Rudy won - but after hearing him in the debate - yikes - he's a
nut case.

I truly don't think a hard line conservate could possibly win. We have to
be afraid of a moderate - and he was the closest thing to that - before
I knew what he really thought.

61. The Repugs want to pump her up now so she'll be the candidate so
they can smear her like no one's ever been smeared. I have a couple of uninformed friends who are behind her. IMHO they don't have a clue. She has SO much baggage. If she's the candidate, I know other people who wouldn't otherwise vote who will vote to vote AGAINST her. If Gore indeed does not run, I'm leaning towards Edwards.

I live in Illinois so location may play into this.

59. I hear lots of cautious optimism about Hillary winning the election among friends
and acquaintances here - American Democrats and the Dutch people I know and talk to.

I too would be more than happy to give her my vote should she win the nomination.

60. If Gore does not run, then I am backing Hill. Most of the women that I know
are pro-Hill. Maybe we are older than y'all. I personally have not been swayed as so many here have by the GOPers anti-Clinton talking points. It is subconscious I know, but these disparagements and worse have been spouted daily for over 14 years. It is difficult not to internalize some of it inadvertently. Hillary is not centrist; she is just left of center. For example, her health care (universal type, that is) was out there years ago as was her support for a Palestinian state. Boy, the Pugs flailed out big time on both of those.

I know people who aren't even registered to vote who are planning to register if she gets the nom just so they can vote against her. The Republicans are drooling over this.

84. Sen. Clinton was framed as our Presidential candidate by the republicants years ago.
For that reason alone, we should avoid her like the plague - either they know they can beat her, or they have bought her.

86. Here in NYS,
she won re-election to the Senate by a very impressive amount. She took a large number of republican votes, besides her democratic support. Polls indicated that republican women voted for her; I know in my rural area, that was true. I do not think her support among independents was significant.

I am not making a statement of support -- or non-support -- of her campaign. I'm confident that most people already have pretty strong feelings about her, one way or the other. But I will say that in even the rural, upstate republican counties, she has a well-organized machine at work.
