I basically told a clown who was telling Bill and Hillary jokes to shut up today |
|
It was at a local deli. I had ordered a sandwich, and it was taking a long time.
Jackass walked up to me and started rattling off mostly bad, old jokes about the Clintons. When I asked him to stop he asked if I was a Hillary supporter.
I told him honestly that I am not, but I was on my break and trying to avoid stress. He backed down before I got ugly and pulled a knife on him or something.
I hate rude people.
Rant off.

29. That uses to be a standard tactic for me. |
|
I don't go anywhere without a pocket knife, usually in a line somewhere some jerk would practice being an asshole. (not hard to find in NJ) My standard response was to whip my knife out of my pocket and flip it open with a twist of the wrist. I would then proceed to check the sharpness of the blade. Sometimes the appropriate scowl in the right direction was needed. I didn't have the time or energy to make a diplomatic verbal argument. Sometimes action speaks louder than words. I'm not sure I'd do that in Fla today but then again, I'd have the situational advantage at close range.

I had sufficient street smarts to recognize that the individuals did not "belong" in the neighborhood, which was near the UCSD campus.
The young man who asked me for the time was wearing a watch himself, one with a wide leather strap with rivets and three little buckle fasteners. That and the age, ethnicity, and mannerisms of the individuals convinced me that they most likely intended to deprive me of my timepiece - A black-faced stainless steel Seiko day/date self-winder that was considered a badge of honor among Hispanic teens who lived in the rough neighborhood of Southeast San Diego in those days, particularly when it had been taken from a naive white La Jolla college student by persuasion.
It was 1977. Things were different back then.

And they didn't have a positive reason to accost me. They went out of their way to approach me.
The location wasn't a public recreation spot like the beach or a park, nor was it on or near a path any pedestrian would take to such a place. It was clear they were out looking for trouble. I would even go so far as to say that I profiled them. They were young gang members hoping to find easy victims.
O.K. Was it just the way things were back then or do you still think they should stay put in their own hood?
I have always supported the right of all people who are not incarcerated to move freely about. A person does not need a "legitimate" reason to be in any particular place, but I do not support people engaging in bad behavior like intimidation and robbery.

27. I always call them on it when they do that in public. |
|
I use a sarcastic voice and tell them how "cutting edge" their 12 year old jokes are. I tell them "You lost. Get over it."
Then, I ask them to back up anything they say about Bill.
Since I am a small, older lady, I can get away with more. Anyone who hits or threatens me would really have the book thrown at them.
I will never forget an incident in a deli in a larger city near me. I stood up to a bigmouth, and not in a mean or nasty way. He started to loom over me and use bad language. Three large gangsta-looking young men came and stood behind me. They said nothing to the freeper, they just stood there. He turned tail. I bought the young men some fresh cokes, even though they said I did not have to.
You never know where you will find friends.

He is 25. He does not look like a gangsta, but he is not little.
If he was in a restaurant and saw a verbal exchange that escalated, he would be out of his seat and near the older lady, cell phone in hand. He would ask the server to notify the manager, and call the cops if necessary. He would not be above intervening physically if he had to.
I am not sure this guy would have knocked me down. Freepers are hard to figure. But the name-calling was enough for these kids.

i told him that "no one knows how vince foster died, for all we know, the person who sent anthrax to senator daschle's office might have been who killed vince foster".
the moron didn't talk much after that.
