Bush Vows To Keep Food Supply Safe
http://www.wsmv.com/health/13709780/detail.html?rss=nash&psp=news

WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush on Wednesday established a Cabinet-level panel to recommend how to guarantee the safety of imported food and other products brought into the country and how to police them better.

The White House denied the effort was aimed at China, though the announcement came the same day senators heard testimony from regulators about problems caused by the extremely rapid growth of imports from China.

"It's important for the American people to know their government is on top of this situation and constantly reviewing procedures and practices," Bush said after his first meeting with the Working Group on Import Safety.

(snip)

Sen. Sherrod Brown said creation of the panel will not address the problem.

"Establishing a product safety panel is like stamping out a single leaf in a forest fire," said Brown, D-Ohio, who called for a broader look at trade issues.

(end snips)

Why do I hear echos of "you vill eat this und you vill like it"?

3. I feel so much better now! He establishes a panel to discuss it, when
he's had the FDA for how many years? Why am I not surprised? Disgusted totally, but not surprised.

As usual too little too late. What a fucking idiot. He gutted the FDA so pharma could pull some shit and now he finds out there were 'collateral' problems.

11. There might be
a silver lining to that cloud. This could help reinvigorate the family farm, or at least give local growers a boost by providing more incentive to buy locally. Home canning might also start sounding like a better idea, that is if people can find time to do it between the three jobs everyone will need to survive if congress doesn't start turning around some of *'S great economic policies..

17. Bush is talking out of the left side of his ass
Little Georgie always says what's politically expedient for him to say, like we'll get OBL dead or alive, he's not out to nation-build, we will rebuild New Orleans, or al-Q is on the run. Whatever. There's no connection between what he says and what he does other than that he's trying to make people feel ok about stuff as he proceeds to fuck them over.

So my advice is don't listen to him. What he says doesn't matter and has no bearing on what he does.
