Holy crap. Tammy Faye (on CNN now) looks like death warmed over.
She's dying of cancer, getting hospice care. On Larry King now. Holy crap she looks horrible. I can't believe she went on TV. She can barely breathe. The end must be near.

Say what you will; I feel really bad for her.

5. Her attitude does seem good.
Positive, but she admitted to being a little bit afraid. I think most Christians would (certainly I would) -- and no, this is not an invitation for the Christian-bashers to jump in here so please don't. But her attitude is remarkably good.

She does seem to have changed for the better after being shed of smilin' Jim.....

space or time"?

I am beginning to believe DU, GD is falling to the times we are victims to. Celebrity.

10. I didn't ask you to click on this topic. Or to comment.
It's a current event. She's a public figure. That's what we do in GD: discuss current events and public figures.

12. Maybe this makes me naive
but I prefer to believe that she is truly repentant for the PTL years. I believe she has a pure heart. I hope that her passing is peaceful, and that there's a better place for her on the other side.

IMHO, YMMV

17. I feel badly for this woman and all she and her family have been through.
It makes me sad to see her exploited in her last moments on earth in front of none other the Larry King.

I wish her and her family peace.

Thanks Julie. I do want her leaving this earth to be peaceful for her and her family.

23. I know you do
>I do want her leaving this earth to be peaceful for her and her family.<

I think she has touched so many more hearts with her obvious repentance than she ever did during the church years.

I came out of that denomination. Believe me, I am still humiliated by my behavior during that time in my life, and I've apologized over and over. I respect her for having the guts to not only admit that she was wrong, to go out of her way to right the wrongs she felt she caused. She embodies what I believe to be true Christianity.

Godspeed, Tammy Faye.

Julie

29. Why do you suppose she went on the show?
She knows, of anyone, that she could be exploited. Maybe she wanted to get one last appearance in and exploited king to do it . I wanted to see it but forgot to watch. I wish her well in any case.

She was truly a wonderful person on that show. She's a very different person than when she was still involved with the PTL.

By the way, I discovered it was Tammy only after recording it. I always thought it was a little girl. And I do have sympathy. This is just something I think could possibly lighten the tone of things. And I am totally braindead today. Sheesh. Goodbye and good night DU and internets and Ted Stevens.

21. She became a vocal gay rights advocate after the PTL fiasco
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 11:47 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
She even used to write a gay youth advice column in an attempt to help gay youths when she found out how many commit suicide.

She may not have been the sharpest knife in the draw, but she's not an evil person.

I'm sorry she's dying.

I'll may just have to watch it sometime. Her son stood with her when she renounced how her church treated gay people. He was showing promise way back then.

She doesn't look like she'll live thru tomorrow.

Say what you will about her transgressions, but I grew to gain a certain respect for her thru the years - long after the PTL. I'm sorry to see her suffering. And I don't think I would have been able to say that 20 years ago.

Peace be with her.

32. I can look past her PTL days...we all have sinned and come short.
But I look at her now and see a very pure and loving heart. My heart breaks for this pain and suffering that she is enduring. But I am inspired by her spirit and her strength. May she be blessed with a peaceful journey as she transitions from this life. And may she be blessed with the comfort and confidence of knowing that the pain of this life will not follow her there.

Anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer has to have sympathy for her and her family.

God bless her and her family.
