My daughter flew to Washington this am |
|
Her flight was at 6 am. We arrived at the airport at just before 5. We were greeted at the entrance of DFW with some type of dire warning terra signs in place...said something along the lines that higher security measures were in place. Anyways...drop her off at the luggage check in which was VERYYYYYYYYY long. 15 minutes later she called and said that they had bumped THIRTY of them off the flight because they were checking EVERY passenger--and it was taking 20-30 minutes for each of them. They put all thirty on standby and told them HOPEFULLY they would be able to fly out today. By the way, there were some who had been in line since 4 am.

2. The realities of flying; get there a couple of hours early. Then, after |

you clear security, at least you're there. I know it stinks, but that's the way it is nowadays. Having said that, the organization at certain airports is beyond appalling and could be much better. Why, pray tell, only have one security line open when there are 600 people trying to get through it? I know the pain, and frustration.

4. My sister went to fly out of Dulles the other night |
|
Found out her name was on the no-fly list. She had just flown three days prior. She got it straightened out, but she missed her flight.

5. Airline travel is voluntary and we subject ourselves to this insult with eyes wide open. |

It bothers me and irritates me to stand in line for ages. (btw, if your daughter flew into Reagan and will be returning on same, the lines will be WORSE).
I do, however, object to the Feds reading emails, tracing telephone calls, tapping bank records, monitoring library activites, etc. It's illegal.

6. Also, weather at her destination is a consideration; the east coast |
|
is getting slammed with rain/storms, I hear. Now if you meant the state of WA, I can't help you there.

7. I love to fly, however |
|
I simply will not use air travel. If I have to fly to a location, then I will not go there.

8. They're obviously trying to discourage as much travel |
|
as they can, turning us into a nice, captive, predictable population. I'm sure internal passports can't be too far in the future.
I hate these people, I truly do.

10. Few suggestions from a frequent traveler |
|
If you want to avoid big lines, book flights during off-peak hours. DFW to Dulles or DFW to National are busy business routes and they're going to be packed at that hour so that business travelers can get to their destinations and still go do whatever it is they're going there to do. You'll have a lot better luck booking flights from about 9:00 AM through 2:00 PM. Friday, Monday and Sunday tend to be the heaviest travel days. I know sometimes you don't have a choice, but between two large cities, especially if one of them is D.C. you should have lots of options on flight times.
Those higher security measures signs have been around since the big liqui-bomber scare in London. That, and of course the underlying message of BEHAVE! WE'RE WATCHING YOU!
Sounds like in your case there might have been something very specific about that flight that was a risk. Who knows though.
I fly on average twice a month and rarely encounter problems. I'm surprised too, because I have a very common name and share it with a very famous/popular author and that's two things that seem to set of the warning bells.

|

14. I flew out of DFW on Sunday |
|
I travel with a CPAP machine, which was checked three different times by the same screener. Of course, he asked for my boarding pass three different times as well. I also witnessed an incident between a TSA employee and a woman who was simply attempting to get to her flight that made me wish I was close enough to get the guy's name. No, we're not criminals. We're just trying to get to our flight and go about our lives.
>15 minutes later she called and said that they had bumped THIRTY of them off the flight because they were checking EVERY passenger--and it was taking 20-30 minutes for each of them.<
My husband traveled almost every week for three years; he encountered this stuff, too. I can only hope that your daughter was quickly rebooked on another flight.
