Two arrested, motive behind slaying unknown

Authorities have made two arrests in the slaying of Phillip McCreary Sr. of Springfield, who was found shot to death at a fishing hole on the Edisto River earlier this month.

Barnwell County Sheriff Ed Carroll said William Allen Owens, 31, of 1650 Halford St., Williston and Hariet Renee McKiney, 32, of 34959 Main St., Pittsville, Md. have been charged with murder in McCreary's death.

On July 6, authorities were sent to a river landing where S.C. Highway 39 crosses the Edisto River near Springfield. It was there they found the body of the 51-year-old McCreary, who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. McCreary was an associate pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church in Blackville.

Carroll said that more individuals could be arrested in connection with the shooting.
Barnwell County authorities have charged two individuals with the death of avid fisherman and Springfield pastor, Phillip McCreary, Sr. McCreary was found dead at the "three bridges" area along the Edisto River on Friday, July 6.
