What's up with the Miers contempt effort? |
|
The last news report is that she flipped them the bird, again.
What's next, if anything?

After all this, I still find myself disappointed at times. Even though I know nothing is going to happen.

15. They are still two steps away from that. |
|
First there was the waiting period, which I believe ended yesterday, during which she could respond with the reason she did not appear. Then comes the subcommittee hearing that will find that she gave no excuse and is in fact in Contempt. That will then be reported to the Committee which will then vote (party line vote for sure) to proceed with a Contempt Citation. That matter would then go to the full House where on a straight majority vote they will decided to do what they do - probably to go forward with the Contempt Citation. Then we will see something. All of this could happen before August 1 of course and if Congress is in recess it seems to me she might spend the entire month of August in jail. One can only hope.

17. Would all this shit happen if I refused a subpoena to testify for Congress? |
|

19. You forgot to mention one other part of the equation |
|
After Congress votes on the Contempt citation and it passes it then goes to Dept of Just Us and Gonzo gets to decide whether he will pursue it or not.. Want to guess how he will decide?

last I heard they are talking about "inherent contempt" not "criminal contempt" It's my understanding on "inherent contempt" the Congress itself has the power to arrest and hold until a new congress is in session. (which I'm guessing would be 2009). If they do that they won't need the DC - DA or the Justice Dept.

that is just how us dems work. We mustered the balls to have an all night debate, and now we will tuck our tail under and hide to see what the big bad MINORITY party does...
