Vandals Attack Man's Hummer, Leave Note
WASHINGTON — When Gareth Groves brought home his massive new Hummer, he knew his environmentally friendly neighbors disapproved. But he didn't expect what happened next. The sport utility vehicle was parked for five days on the street before two masked men smashed the windows, slashed the tires and scratched into the body: "FOR THE ENVIRON."

"The thought of somebody vandalizing it never crossed my mind," said Gareth Groves, who lives near American University in Northwest Washington. "I've kind of been in shock."

Police said they see small acts of vandalism in the area from time to time, but they have not seen anything so severe, or with such a clear political message, in recent years.

I'm curious about how everyone views this. Personally, I think that it's vandalism, plain and simple, and that the perps are criminals, not environmental crusaders.

4. Same here...
Of course that will be more difficult since they wore masks. Apparently, they're not so dedicated to their cause that they could overcome their cowardice.

5. No excuse for the vandalism

The Hummer owner certainly lacks taste, and environmental awareness, but those aren't punishable offenses. Vandalism is a crime, which is as it should be.

Aaaand of course Mr. Groves and his friend
"Now, as Groves contemplates what to do with the remains of his $38,000 Hummer, he has had to deal with a number of people who have driven by the crime scene and glared at him in smug satisfaction.

" "I'd say one in five people who come by have that 'you-got-what-you-deserve' look," said his friend Andy Sexton."

...are apparently enjoying their newfound victimhood a little too much. It's just a vehicle. You're insured. Everything's going to be all right, the world isn't coming to an end.

6. I'm still wondering why some fuck bashed the window out of my Prius
when it was a week old.

Oh, well, got it fixed right up and had a good road trip that weekend anyway.

23. This is my biggest fear if I happen to buy a Prius -
some jealous asshole, disgusted with having to pay $60+ every time he fills up, decides to take it out on my car!

I'm more and more becoming a fan of civil unrest as a means to get a point across. Judge me as you will.

12. Lock the hypocritical animals up.
Guess how much WASTE was caused by that damage, and what will happen to the old materials when replaced. You betcha - left on a scrap heap.

Vandalism; it's simply that - they are criminals. And cowards for putting masks on their faces. :P

13. attacking the hummer goes too far. deflating the tires repeatedly I think
would have been more sensible and sent the same message w/o the spite while indonveniencing the prick that bought the hummer to compensate for the lack of heft and/or use of his own prick, no doubt.

so I'll just say that I think the guys who did this are spineless little punks who would probably learn their lessons after a night in the county lock-up.

24. It Means Some People Suspect This is a Publicity Stunt on the Part of the "Victim"
Considering the victim's job (radio promotions), I'm inclined to sit on my hands and wait for more info as well.
