DUers, have you prepared? In the event of a Chertoff, Roberts, Paul suggested attack?
Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 08:03 PM by BeHereNow
Got water, batteries, candles, propane, extra medications and cash etc?

I am deeply concerned about the fact that
so many are speaking out publicly about the
possiblilty of another attack, whether it be
a MIHOP, or a LIHOP.

Please do make sure you are prepared for
emergency conditions. I think to do otherwise
is to really not be paying attention.

I try to always be ready for who knows what .

I used to only worry about 3 days worth of supplies
After Katrina I keep more days worth stuff

4. If that happens ...
... than anything we could do in response or preparation will be moot. It'll be all over. And at that point, my mind immediately travels into very uncomfortable places. Because once a truly major attack happens while this regime is in power, no matter who is behind it, the world as we know it will cease to exist. And I for one don't want to be a part of what follows.

And I will never forgive this regime for sending my mind down that path.

6. I think preparing is essential though-
Having supplies on hand may give you time to
find a way out.
That's my thinking anyway.

There are people who wont have a chance
because they will be dependent and helpless.

I don't think I want to be helpless in
a neocon military backed dictatorship...

5. Yep.
2 months' worth of food, a huge tank of water gathered from rainwater that can be filtered--even have solar panels to put in place.

33. I can tell you how to do this easily
and then you can come for a visit if you like :)

Go to a wholesale supplier--they will let you buy basic bulk foods at a discount. Another good source for information is the Mormon church--they are required to keep 2 years' worth of food on hand, and have information about what to keep and how to get it. A friend even went to a seminar they gave about this--don't know if she gave a fake name or whether her Pagan trappings kept the missionaries away--but she came back with good information, like going to the wholesale supplier in town that would sell to individuals.

As for water--get a stock tank and set it on one side of your house. Funnel the rainwater through guttering into the tank. Cover the tank with heavy tarp to keep leaves, etc, out of it. Best to be used for washing, etc, though you can get a water filter to clean it if need be. Witching a well might be a good idea, or know where springs are nearby (I do).

Oh, and get sawdust. Put in 5 gallon buckets, use for the toilet. No water used there, and you can compost the stuff outside in a compost heap.

8. Imagine really being prepared...say walking into a Mall with a gas mask
strapped to one leg, and your first-aid kit complete with battlefield dressings and auto-injector of antidote for nerve gas in the cargo pocket on the other?

Just how much would it cost and how long would it take to get out of jail?

9. I was always a preparedness nut.
When I was little I'd get a hurricane prep guide every year at the store and read it excitedly. I'm a geek that way. Anyway, I am doing my best here...I know some people think this sort of thing is paranoid, but certainly there are other reasons to stay prepared. The regional weather event du jour, job loss, etc...so, hey, if something at all happens, at least you are covered in the short term, right?

I just don't know what to do in this little apartment here. There isn't space for much.

10. I live in earthquake land, so I am a geek that way too.
I think the real threat is this-
If you have supplies, other people might want them.
Prepare to protect your property, that's the scenario I think
is coming.

50 should get you where you need to go.

and this to keep them safe.

A years worth of food, and access to a private reverse osmosis filtration system producing 30,000 gal/ day comes in handy too, way more water than I can use, but others will need it as well.

Reasonable precaution is fine, but I do think there is way too much fear mongering coming from the same people who scoff that the government is just trying to scare us when they mention terrorists or Al Queda. I think they're both unreasonable.

21. I think one has only to study the victims of Katrina to understand the need to prepare
Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 09:35 PM by BeHereNow
What ever the circumstance, be it natural disaster or
manufactured, I think it is fairly safe to assume
that we are on our own.

Yes, the government wants us to be afraid
I absolutely am afraid, but not for the reasons they
would hope.
My fear is of their total malice and apathy
for and towards we, the people.

Therefore, I am prepared for anything-
I know no help will come, should something happen.
Anything who thinks otherwise is a fool.

18. I think, for DUers, better preparation would be...
...either a valid passport and close proximity to the Canadian or Mexican border, or convincing fake ID and a plan to go into hiding when the next "national emergency" triggers Bush's imposition of martial law and the subsequent "disappearing" of political opponents.

I want to be able to survive off the grid.
The dictatorship will be executed by electronic means.
That is why I am a firm advocate of cash and other
forms of assets on hand- ready to go in a backpack.
On horseback, preferably.

30. all the better no maps needed
if you are unaware of safe places to cross over, fuck it, i can tell you of some i've witnessed personally

it's just too easy at least along the very long texas border

if for some reason you need to go to mexico you'll be fine

i've never witnessed any "iffy" canada crossings, no doubt they exist, but i don't live in the region and it just has never occurredd...
