China warns U.S. against "smear attacks" on imports
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070719/pl_nm/china_usa_food_dc_1

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China warned the United States on Thursday against "groundless smear attacks" against Chinese products and said it was working responsibly to address concerns over a spate of recent food safety scares.

"The Chinese Government has not turned a blind eye or tried to cover up. We have taken this matter very seriously, acted responsibly and immediately adopted forceful measures," said a statement by China's embassy in Washington.

"Blowing up, complicating or politicizing a problem are irresponsible actions and do not help in its solution," the Chinese mission said in a rare policy pronouncement.

"It is even more unacceptable for some to launch groundless smear attacks on China at the excuse of food and drug safety problems," it said.

Echoing the Beijing government's complaints about U.S. media reports, the embassy said food safety concerns were not unique to China, 99.2 percent of whose food exports to the United States in 2006 met quality standards.

1. Their domestic goods are crap too...
Must be all those 10 y.o. slave laborers not having their hearts in it.

I have a lot of respect for the cultural history of China. But a lot of it wasn't all that good either. And more recently, not so much.

I just hope when they take over what's left of the world we manage to infect them with SOME of our idealism.

7. Two things:
1. The US need slander nobody. The products coming out of China typically speak for themselves. That's not the US' fault.

2. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/StockInvestingTrading/ChinaIntro_SeriesHome.aspx

That URL rather proves it's not all slave labor... China recently boasted getting more than 400 million people out of poverty. Of 1.3 billion people, pulling out 1/3rd so quickly is impressive.

And since the US offshored some of its manufacturing base to them, China really isn't in a position to be threatening the US in return - even with them holding some of our debt.

12. Not all slave labor
But that's good news.

China has had a very turbulent history, but some incredibly good things have come out of China as well. What can you say about a culture that invented gunpowder centuries ago and yet used it for entertainment pretty much until the westerners got their hands on it?

14. some of its manufacturing base? some of our debt?
"China really isn't in a position to be threatening the US in return.

I'll bet you don't talk to your banker that way when asking for a loan. They own enough of both to sink the US. NOW! And if they ever team with India, the next millennium will be called "The Age of the Asians".

10. I don't think it's as one-sided as that...
Could life really be so simple that one scapegoat is to blame for everything?

The world has always been complex.

Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 08:58 PM by MadMaddie
poisen our country with their inferior goods?

Fucking * admin cowers to China because China holds most of US debt?

We import more than we export?

So when Americans start dying because of the crap that is imported will it stop...Will someone in WA figure out we better get our Farmers in the US the things they need to survive and start providing the majority of products that Americans consumers...

So what China stops importing our food....our farmers can sell it to Americans.

And now the FDA wants to close 7 of it's 13 offices and it can barely inspect the volumen of imported food?

Are you kidding me?

9. We're becoming a globalized society.
Which means, why are we still dealing with countries as sovereign entities?

Says who? Bushco certainly isn't inspecting it. In fact, bush has repeatedly cut the FDA's funding for inspection year after year.
