4. 4.2 magnitude
A light earthquake occurred at 4:42:22 AM (PDT) on Friday, July 20, 2007.
The magnitude 4.2 event occurred 4 km (2 miles) ENE of Oakland, CA.
The hypocentral depth is 6 km ( 4 miles).

14. Is 3.6 miles considered shallow for an earthquake in the Oakland area?
I seem to remember that Kobe (sp?) was 6 miles deep and that was considered shallow.

16. i've lived here most of my life -- they all feel shallow -- and deep!
technically i don't know -- but the hayward fault is over do for going off.
