Seventy House Members To Bush: No More Money For Your War
A group of around 70 House Democrats wrote a toughly-worded letter to President Bush today informing him that they would no longer vote for funding of the troops in any form save if the money were spent exclusively on withdrawing them from Iraq. Here's what this means: A quarter of the majority party is now for cutting off funding for the troops if they're staying.

When Harry Met Harry: Reid Finally Starts Channeling Truman Instead of Dukakis
(T)his week Senator Reid began to get it right…Any move that can simultaneously force Republicans to sacrifice for their lunacy, make them responsible for it in the public eye, put the opposition to the war on the offensive, drain GOP support for Bush in Congress, increase the likelihood that the right will fold their bullying bluff by calling them out, give the Democrats a reputation as fighters, and properly reframe the debate – all in one easy step – any move that can do all that is quite something.

Pentagon says anyone who asks about withdrawal from Iraq is emboldening the enemy

Attacks on Gore backfire.
(Wednesday), conservatives across the blogosphere, citing a People magazine article and a poorly-researched Austrailian Daily Telegraph article, smeared Al Gore by claiming that he ate Chilean Sea Bass — a threatened species – at a rehearsal dinner for his daughter’s wedding. Attempting to paint Gore as an environmental hypocrite, BlogsForBush, NewsBusters, and others expressed outrage over the hypocrisy. But, as the Telegraph reports today, “Al Gore’s fish dinner turns out green“.

This Is Why We Revile Them
Marc Ambinder at the Atlantic defends the Edwards haircut story and condemns the undue coverage of Romney's make-up… Ambinder says right out that "fairly or unfairly" the press can't stand John Edwards and so they are going to bury him. This is, of course, not unprecedented since we saw what they did to Al Gore for the same reason… (M)aybe we should just poll the kewl kidz and find out which candidate they "like, totally, like" and we can cancel the election and save a lot of time and money.

It's Roger Ailes and Neil Cavuto the WSJ should fear
What's been missing from the stream of Murdoch-centered analysis, though, is a detailed discussion about the negative fallout the Journal faces from being so closely aligned with Fox News. U.S. Leadership in Science Publishing Slips
Growth in the number of studies published in major peer-reviewed journals by U.S. scientists has flattened since the 1990s, according to a new report from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Training scientists is a priority in those countries. In the U.S., it’s not. It’s that simple.—Caro
