Bu$hco martial law will be the US's Tianamen Square. Where will you stand?

4 June 1989: Massacre in Tiananmen Square ( 天安门广场 )

Reach down and do a gut check. Get your mind right. Prepare to do the right thing, even in the face of all odds. We are facing the biggest potential crises in this country since 1776. Verb sap!.

4. Aux barricades!
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 09:09 AM by hobbit709
FLOWERS IN THE NIGHT
MUSIC & Lyrics: Jack Traylor

Paine and Pierce and Robespierre, Juarez and Danton,
Luther, King and Lumumba dead but far from gone
Lenin, Cleaver, Jesus too, outlaws in their nations,
Revolutionaries all, dreamed of liberation
God is up in heaven his agents here on earth

The church has said that this man rules, he's best because of birth.
But what's that noise down in the street, who dares to shout and sing?
With all his courtiers at his side, who dares to touch the king?
Old man get some soldiers, keep them close at hand
There's a fire in the country, there's a flame come to the land
Seven thousand loyal troops, in ranks they stretch so far
With seven thousand well armed men, no one can touch the czar.

Louis watch the prisons, send the goons around
Is that Paris burning, is the Bastille falling down?
And where are all the mercenaries - paid for by the king?
Have they joined the mob you say, doesn't money mean anything?
Old men get some soldiers, keep them close at hand,
The seeds that were sown yesterday now flower in the land
And guard yourself most carefully with military might.
For plants that cannot bloom by day must flower in the night.

5. Thinking they won't have too many barricades where I am
My area is set up for a good staging area for guerrillas.

We have lots of people with some, um, usable skills around here. Miles and miles of miles and miles.
Close to a border. Big ass ol river close by.

Not gonna tell ya where I will be standing. I will be like the Scarlet Pimpernel, here, there, everywhere.

I will be V, and one of many. Running a station on the new Underground Railway until I take a long walk east.

7. All this martial law talk is a red herring; why should they need to suspend
the constitution if congress won't uphold it in the first place?

Beyond that, I think to a very great extent all the imminent doom and gloom talk plays into the regime's hands: As long as people are scared shitless, why should they care whether they're scared shitless of Osama or of them? It's just as much a distraction: People are more worried about what the Insane Clown Posse might do in the future than interested in holding them accountable for what thedy've already done.

33. But that's the thing.
I don't think fear is the main emotion when talking about all this "gloom and doom".
I think its fury.

35. Yeah, I think you're on to something there;
there's a sense that all the things we expected to keep abuses of power in check are failing us.

But I have seen posts from "They'll set off a nuclear weapon on the west coast - this week" to "we need to start organizing our underground resistance cells" - the fear is there, although I agree there's fury too, and people aren't sure where it should be directed.

41. That's true.
And absolutely right about the failure of checks and balances.

Fear/fury - I guess what it all comes down to is failure.

On the other hand, though, I honestly think that if there were to be some sort of "attack" on US soil, a large portion of the population would think twice about taking any explanations from this administration at face value. (Okay, I hope...) :)

I tend to think the imposition of martial law will shock many, not all but enough, into mass resistance. To quote Herr Limbaugh (for the 1st and only time), "The bear has been poked."

19. For a few years now, I have recalled the photos of Soviet troops NOT firing on mothers & grands
The USSR relied on troops to hold the people down and the troops eventually did not fire on the people who ARE Russia and her satellites.

The cheney/bush junta probably remember that too. There is a reason they have privatized so much security and sent our REAL troops far away.

Beware Blackwater and their ilk. cheney/bush junta has done a good job of sorting the sadists from the real troops. And the brass running the Air Force is way too full of religious fanatics of late. They worry me some too.

25. That was after Stalin killed twenty million of his own people
and sent millions more to the gulags, don't forget. But yes, I don't see regular army or the national guard firing on large crowds of U.S. citizens. Frankly, I don't see them supporting an attempt by Bush to suspend the constitution they're sworn to uphold.

37. But perhaps Bushco is WELCOMING resignations of these generals!
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 11:57 AM by calipendence
For the simple reason that it thins out the possibility of a military coup to push Bushco out of power if they have more and more toadies in control of the military instead. Which is why we really shouldn't encourage these well meaning generals to RESIGN, but to somehow stand up to them, or at least be prepared to "do the right thing" if the time comes for them to do so. I have a lot of confidence that we do also have many good people in the military too. Just need to make sure that all of them in power don't leave, where they can have levers for change if need be!

42. They're pretty busy in Iraq and Afghanistan--
both of which are small compared to the U.S., geographically and in terms of population. I know there were reports that Blackwater had been contracted by DHS to provide "security" in New Orleans post-Katrina, but that's one city in a relatively small geographic area. I don't think they've got enough boys to deal with 300 million angry citizens--plus, a lot of governors and mayors would certainly refuse to allow armed mercenaries to operate in their states/cities; hell, there are plenty of Dem governors who would probably refuse to call out their National Guard if ordered to do so under the terms of a Bush coup d'etat.

Blackwater is still waiting out there to become Bush's SS when the time comes!

24. At The Barricade!
Artist: Enjolras, The Stude
Song: AT THE BARRICADE

(Enjolras is addressing the revolutionaries)

ENJOLRAS
Here upon these stones
We will build our barricade
In the heart of the city
We claim as our own!
Each man to his duty
And don't be afraid.
Wait! I will need a report
On the strength of the foe.

JAVERT(disguised as a rebel)
I can find out the truth
I know their ways
Fought their wars
Served my time
In the days
Of my youth.

PROUVAIRE
Now the people will fight

GRANTAIRE
And so they might
Dogs will bark
Fleas will bite.

LESGLES
They will do what is right!

(Marius spots Eponine, who is dressed as a boy)

MARIUS
Hey, little boy, what's this I see?
God, Eponine, the things you do!

EPONINE
I know this is no place for me,
Still, I would rather be with you!

MARIUS
Get out before the trouble starts.
Get out, 'Ponine, you might get shot!

EPONINE
I've got you worried now, I have
That shows you like me quite a lot!

MARIUS
There is a way that you can help
You are the answer to a prayer!
Please take this letter to Cosette
And pray to God that she's still there!

EPONINE
Little you know!
Little you care!

(She walks to the Rue Plumet, where she meets Valjean)

EPONINE
I have a letter M'sieur
It's addressed to your daughter, Cosette
It's from a boy at the barricade, Sir,
In the Rue de Villette.

VALJEAN
Give me that letter here, my boy.

EPONINE
He said to give it to Cosette

VALJEAN
You have my word that my daughter will know
What this letter contains.

(He gives her a coin)

Tell the young man she will read it tomorrow
And here's for your pains
Go careful now, stay out of sight
There's danger in the streets tonight.

(He opens the letter... and reads it)

"Dearest Cosette, you have entered my soul
And soon you will be gone.
Can it be only a day since we met
And the world was reborn?
If I should fall in the battle to come
Let this be my goodbye...
Now that I know you love me as well
It is harder to die...
I pray that god will bring me home
To be with you.
Pray for your Marius. He prays for you!"

(Valjean goes in, leaving Eponine alone)

Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 11:52 AM by calipendence
That was what was lost on so many people watching this movie, as they've not had face down a row of tanks like this guy did. Without that "preparation" she wouldn't have been able to do so. We have to all ask ourselves this same question on how we do this without going through what Evie did.

You have a choice today to be like Rachel Corrie when she supported the Palestinians (and have to pay the ultimate price), and standing up and be counted to help shut down these bums:

or be like the people in this picture:

We have a choice!
Let's make the right one!
