Does anybody else feel like Rehnquist was "taken out"...
to make room for Roberts as Chief Justice?

2. Honestly no.
He was old and sick and had been on the court since Nixon was in office. If they were going to murder someone, it would have been Stevens.

3. Um ... no.
First, the Bush administration may do a lot of bad things, but I don't think they cause cancer.

Also, it's not as if Rehnquist was a flaming liberal — he was nominated by Nixon, for God's sake. Even supposing the Bush administration was in the habit of offing Supreme Court justices (a deeply, deeply tinfoily thing to wrap one's brain around in the first place), why Rehnquist? Why not Ginsberg, Breyer or Stevens?

4. Definitely.
And I am convinced that this is linked in some way to the assassination of Princess Di.

6. Very unlikely!
(a) He was over 80 and known to have cancer, so his death was hardly terribly unexpected.

(b) If someone wanted to 'take out' a justice to replace with a right-winger, why would they choose Rehnquist and not one of the liberal or moderate judges? He was just as right-wing as Roberts, so far as I know, so this would not make sense.

10. he was injected with a radioactive little pill about 30 years ago
that was time-release scheduled to kill him at just the right moment...they were planning on this from the time Roberts was in his 20's...

OPEN YOUR EYES, PEOPLE!

14. The man was certainly ill; so, they just rushed it up a bit.
Perfect crime actually. He could have lasted longer. He was a stubborn old coot and did have some principles left, though he was a pug. I don't believe he liked the * Administration and was in their way. Look at the comments. People can last a long time with cancer, and they wanted their guy in fast.

13. Yes, I have felt that he was taken out.
I also believe that O'Conner was forced out and that her excessive tears over Renquist's death were because of her sorrow for her country. She knows a lot.
