What are your Healthcare Horror Stories? |
|
I'm in my twenties, married, in school and like many others, I have no insurance. I also have major recurring depressive disorder.
Neither my husband and myself have not been to a GP in about five years. I see my med prescribing doctor once every six months and have a lithium panel once a year. This is annoying but I can live with it.
However the meds are a big problem. I am on four medications per day and only lithium is cheap. One medication can be 300 dollars per month with no insurance. Thank God my mom has a good job or I would never have been able to afford it. Even when I signed up for the free meds from the drug companies, it was a 10 week wait. That's almost two thousand dollars. Meds cost more per month than rent.
The system is horribly inefficient. The most recent example is what prompted me to write this post. My doctor wrote out my med prescription as usual and I took it to the nurses who sent it to the drug company as usual and they sent me my meds as usual. A few weeks ago, I called to have a refill. It usually takes 10 days to have my prescription filled. So I had a few days cushion. To my surprise I was told I was not eligible to get medication until July 19th, plus a ten day wait. I called the nurses who handle the prescriptions and was told that they could do nothing for me except give me a written prescription and let me pay the full price at Walgreens. Now the drug company informs me that they believed they had sent three months medication instead of one month. They sent me my meds, I got them two days ago.
As bad as the headaches, nausea and dizziness were, they were not life threatening. So I just stood it rather than pay the full price. However, I really can't imagine those who don't have that luxury.
So what are your horror stories?

1. After 2 refills of allergy pills I got a letter stating that I have to get them through mail order |

in the future. They will not pay any longer for the refill at CVS. What the f@#$??? I am traveling a lot. So should I stay at home away from work or business travel when UPS or Fedex delivers? Or just skip the medication and be miserable? What idiots are making these rules.
P.S. Everyone should watch SICKO
