Bush issues new torture rules for U.S. interrogators
by Siobhan Gorman

After nine months of wrangling between the White House and Congress, President Bush finally issued the executive order today providing guidelines for interrogators using "enhanced interrogation techniques" in secret CIA prisons.

The order for the first time bars "acts of violence serious enough to be considered comparable to murder, torture, mutilation, and cruel and inhuman treatment." And it also prohibits methods that would denigrate a detainee’s religion.

Bush was required by law to issue the order clarifying how the harsh methods used to interrogate detainees fit within the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits "cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment."

The nine-month gestation period for the order was a product of considerable negation with lawmakers on Capitol Hill who required that the Justice Department conduct a legal review of the order and provide that review to Congress.

back and bite us in the rear-

The photos were the only positive things to happen to the detainees.

They gave witness to the disgusting truth-

On edit:
I'm leaving my o.reply here. As pointed out by the post down below, there isn't any specific mention of pictures. I responded in anger.

my apologies.

Actually, now that i've had some time to think about it, i'm not sure that * was very pleased with the pictures, they offered proof of violations, and brought us shame.

peace,
blu

7. Am I missing the part of this article that says "no more pictures"
Or am I not seeing the "sarcasm" graphic on everybody's post? The only reason I bring it up is that everyone is responding to the original OP like the "no more pictures" thing is really part of the new guidelines.

8. you are
correct as far as I can see.

In reading and re-reading this, i don't see specific mention of "no more pictures".

I even went and read the original statement at the White House site, and specificly looked at the Geneva convention article 3, and didn't see any "photography" mentioned.

Thank you for pointing this out. I jumped in without taking the time to check the water. Not smart.

peace,
blu

9. They already banned cameras after Abu Ghraib.
In fact, that was the first thing they did.
