It's time to be stepping away from the computers and having neighborhood meetings.
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 11:44 AM by shance
On a weekly basis.

Those who wish to take our livlihoods, our homes, our everything hope we will remain in front of our computers, isolating, talking with others we don't know and have no real way of contacting them, without knowing one another, typing away on the computer while they steal our tax dollars, build up military might with our tax dollars and train troops "over there" to bring back here.

How will we defend against Martial Law if we dont' even know our neighbors and don't even have an established place to go to when we need to assemble?

I think we all need to be making concerted efforts to meet as many people as we can who care about what is happening and want to protect and defend what we have.

3. I think you've got a point.
After seeing "Sicko" last night, I was despairing about how we go about changing the corporate stranglehold on our election system, our media, and our judiciary. It seems an almost insurmountable task, but, maybe with the combination of the Internet and face-to-face conversation we'll have a chance.

5. And not just meetings with those with whom we agree, but building local consensus
on local issues: sustainable food buying, shared transportation, local live entertainment, alternatives to corporate products, and on and on. It doesn't have to be partisan, but eventually local interaction will bring back the glue necessary to hold our society together.

Democracy For America is a way to educate yourself and meet others who are just as pissed off as yourself. People who want to do more than piss and moan on a PC.

11. Yeah!
Let's form militias! We can set up training camps in the Pacific Northwest, and teach people how to survive the coming assault from black helicopters!

Come on people, enough already. This place is becoming hysterical.

15. Think about this...
Saw Sicko last night and at one point in the film, it was mentioned that in France, the govt is afraid of the people. Here in the US, the people are afraid of the govt. This statement was then followed by many many pics of people protesting in France for a variety of things - from losing a day off after Easter to suspension of benefits.

If we collectively can't protest the continued murder of innocents in our name using our money, what will we protest?

I am not a hysterical person. (Or not today. :)) I am a middle aged white woman living in a suburban home in the Chicago metro area. My son has played soccer and baseball and I go to church most Sundays. I am active in my community - attend meetings at the city level on a regular basis.

16. What's hysterical
is the repeated claims here that Bush is about to impose martial law and/or cancel the elections. Add to that the notion that we're about to be rounded up into FEMA camps, and the whole thing is just laughable.

People here said the elections in 2002, 2004 and 2006 would be canceled. It didn't happen.

We will have an election next year, and we'll have a new President in January, 2009.

17. I hope that that is hysterical too.
But we have never had a president before who has refused to be ruled by the constitution. We have never had a president before who has made the laws up as he went along. We have never had a president before who has built camps for 'dissidents' and we have never had a president before who has shown such a high level of scorn for the American people.

There will be a showdown of some sort in the months to come. This situation is coming to a boil. The question in my mind is will the congressional leadership be able to steady the country no matter what this admin does to upset it? I just can't see the status quo holding out for another year and half. Something's gotta give soon.

14. Local community is a very important part of human life that is being lost.
Currently the part of organizing a local community is being played by churches. We need also local communities where people gather to play and discuss problems regardless of their religious belief.

18. We need to create city halls if they are no longer there. Every town needs one.
And of course those who abuse power and people, realize how important town halls and community centers are.

19. Won't happen till the draft cards are sent out
How many people do you know that are directly affected by what is happening in this country? A few? 10? Anyone?
Last night I could have stood on the corner in my neighborhood with a protest sign and who would have seen it? People in their campers pulling boats, jet skis and dirt bikes heading out for the weekend. And I live in the desert!

20. Already happening Ben. Pessimism certainly doesnt help us though.
It's easy for any of us to throw up our hands and wait for someone else to do the work.

Its harder to make it happen ourselves.

So lets hook up, meet up and empower one another because that is of course what they are working to do the most with OUR money - disconnect us, build distrust, create hatred and racism, and their wars continue.....

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE......

Absolutely...
