I Will Not Fear
Oooh. I might be giving support to the "enemy" by opposing Bush. Bad me! The President has signed an Executive Order saying they have the right to decide who is offering such support and how they can deal with them.

I'm shaking in my sneakers. Seriously. I'll have to take a break from writing until my knees stop knocking.

I've addressed the whole "gonna declare martial law" stuff already. I'm not going to do it again. I'm not going to start going off talking about how I'm willing to fight and so on. Let's just say I'd be a thorn under his foot and a bramble to his hand and leave it at that.

Being afraid of what might or might not happen isn't going to help us. We need to be aware of the REAL dangers surrounding us every day, the dangers that have been in place for nearly as long as I've been alive. Attacks on the Constitution are nothing new. Hell, the whole prosecution of the War On (some) Drugs has been one long attack on the Constitution. The notion that to get a job you have to pee in a cup is a pretty sad state of affairs, but, hey, as long as it was something someone ELSE had to worry about, what difference did it make?

We've been living under a deepening shadow for a LONG time and people just shrugged their shoulders and accepted it.

Afraid of a tinpot dictator? Not me. Can it happen here? Sure. Will it? Why should it? Things were going along smoothly for the Powers-That-Be. Why mess with a good thing? They gained more control by the day and we did almost NOTHING to resist them. Why should they go for broke now?

We ARE, however, in the midst of a very serious Constitutional Crisis. No doubt about it. Can BushCo hold off Congress? We'd better hope not. Otherwise the whole thing fractures beyond recognition. There is NO government of the People if the executive can't be held responsible.

But I'm not afraid. Wary, but that's only smart.

I'll be watching just like everyone else.

2. Agreed - but please, in addition to *watching* please be sure to contact congress
We need to let them know we are watching THEM and we are paying attention and we are NOT going to be distracted by another blonde-bimbo-bombardment in the news.

3. "I will not fear. Fear is the mindkiller..."
...you know--the good old Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear actually works pretty well...:-)...I'm with you. I have generous anger, outrage, concern...but fear? No thanks...

4. Fear is the mind killer.
It's easily possible to be aware of threat without being fearful.

GWB and TPTB pulling his strings have used the general population's fear to dismantle the constitution, piece by piece.

Refuse to wallow in fear, and we've defused their greatest weapon.

8. I agree...
Remain aware, and wary, and don't react out of fear but use fear to strengthen your resolve and add certainty to your steps.

5. Say the word dictator, say dictatorship. say it in letters to the editor. Say
it to friends and acquaintances. I am writing a letter to the editor now on our fall into a dictatorship. We need to equate Unitary Executive with dictatorship. We need to speak up and speak with force.

My letter is here:

12. just bring it out into the open, let our congress know we are well
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 07:21 PM by alyce douglas
aware of what is happening say it out loud, we are dictatorship and let them deny it, since they think we are children which we are not just tell us out straight, and stop playing this game with the American people, then we will know what we have to do, and we will rise to that occasion. 230 years of a democracy, and these thugs want to scrap it, no I am sorry it doesn't work like that.
