A total stranger stopped at my house today to say he liked my yard sign
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 06:33 PM by IanDB1
Today, my family and I were out on our front lawn.

My daughter was playing, and my wife and I were cutting up cardboard for recycling.

A black pickup truck drove up, slowed down, and honked his horn.

The man inside honked his horn, waved, and shouted, "Nice sign! I hate Bush, too!"

He started to drive away, but then changed his mind. Instead, he put the truck into reverse and came back to ask if I had an extra sign for him.

I only had the one, but I did have a bunch of the small, yellow bumper sticker versions that I gave him.

We had a short conversation, during which he told me that Bush is a selfish bastard who only cares about himself and riding his damn bicycle.

Anyway, the man put the ImpeachBush.org bumpersticker on his truck, right then and there.

That was today.

On Thursday, I had a similar experience.

I was at the liqueur store buying my weekly supply of Ozeki Dry Sake, and there was a guy getting into his car in the parking lot.

He told me he liked the way I had my car decorated.

The man was very well informed about what was going on, and offered me a Howard Dean For America Bumpersticker-- which I immediately put on my car.

Which wasn't easy.

Anyway, I offered him a couple bumperstickers that my wife wouldn't allow me to put on my own car.

The man took the one that said, "W is America's New Swastika."

I still have "I Don't Brake for Republicans" in my glove compartment, if anyone wants it.

More and more often, I'm getting thumbs-up, waves, or fists raised in solidarity.

Things are starting to turn around.

But never, ever EVER miss an opportunity to speak out.

Not even in The Hall of Presidents at Disney World.

Once again... I should NOT be the only one to "Boo" The Animatronic Bush at Disney World!

4. Subtle, but effective.
Actually, congratulations. I am getting more and more vocal in my opposition. In a few years, I hope to retire, and I wish it was now, because I would spend my retirement fighting Bush in every venue I could find.

Until then, I respect your religious beliefs, as shown by the shirt.

6. I need to find some handbook on evangelizing for christ and adapt it to preaching against Bush...
Or, for that matter, evangelizing for Progressivism.

For example, why don't Liberals have clever sidewalk displays with an easel and magic markers?

21. Here's your handbook: The Beatitudes, and don't look for Bush or Fox to mention them
However else religion has been corrupted, these make sense. Oh, and I missed "hate gay people" or "Bring 'em on" as messages here.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Gospel of Matthew 5:3-10

15. I am showing your car pic to other Canadians up here ...
... who have suggested to me that Americans "deserve Bush" and "they voted for him so they got what they want". Just to remind them that it's unfair to claim that all Americans are stupid and warlike!

20. Talking to Canadians
I was on a cruise and there were Canadians on board. Everyone I talked to said that they were scared to death what GWB would get up to next, dragging them along. I'd tell 'em 'just think how we feel.' They are counting the days. I directed a few to this website and to DailyKos to try to show that we are not all the Kool-Aid Kooks they see on the tv.

24. luckily, most people up here who have family, friend, or work contacts in the States ...
...so basically, at least 4 out of 5 of us... got the feeling that most Americans were not that fond of Bush or quite alarmed about him, even before the White House cabal went into overdrive after 9/11. I have noticed that the arrogant or paranoid wingnut-types tend to stay at home (don't want to miss a minute of Limbaugh or FOX News, perhaps) so I make an effort to be nice to the American visitors who do come to our border town, since there is a pretty good chance that they are not fans of Dubya! Trying to be a "good host", though, I hold off on Bush-bashing unless they make the first move.

One woman from Washington State almost burst into tears a few months back -- she was looking at a bunch of T-shirts with anti-Bush slogans on them, in a shop where I was browsing around, and I could tell by her reaction that she approved. I mentioned to her that there was another place a few doors down that had coffee mugs too, and added that she deserved to have a good laugh after everything her country had been through. She nearly cried, saying that it was such a relief to be able to say such things openly when back home she was terrified of losing her job or being shunned if she said what was really on her mind. The other customers in the shop were nodding and making sympathetic noises.

23. That is good to hear and your car
looks like it is in excellent condition.
Maybe we should all carry a stash of bumperstickers - visuals like that would put more presssure on Congress than a phone call or e-mail.
