Turns out I was wrong - some women are NOT human --
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3710987618964917848&hl=en

"Sometimes I date organic women."

This is why it is actually necessary to point out things like "Women are human" - because there are men out there who wish we weren't. And that is an undertone in our entire society, even amongst those who would watch this video and go, "What a bunch of crazies, what a creepy thing to do."

The underlying message is still - I'd really rather deal with an inanimate object because real women who speak and think and control their own bodies are intimidating and not worth the hassle.

2. short story, His Vegetable Wife, by Pat Murphy

story begins:

"The instructions on the package were similar to the instructions on any seed envelope. Vegetable Wife: prefers sandy soil, sunny conditions. Plant two inches deep after all danger of frost has passed. When seedling is two feet tall transplant. Water frequently."

get ahold of the story and see what happens.

4. Sad.
Sad. Sad. Sad. Their loneliness was palpable.

I don't know that it has anything to do with human woman but their self images are so low they don't think they can have a real relationship.

It's going to take a few days for me to get this video behind me.

In a few years, they will be robotized.
Would it be possible to open a nation-wide chain called McProstitute's?

They would be men (or women?) who just don't it in them to form any relationships. :freak:

Oh, Christ, a whore-house full of Norman Bates!

32. Sure, and a few years after that
...when real AI intersects with another generation of robotic dolls, we'll be arguing heatedly about their legal status and human rights here at DU. Friedrich Nietzsche said "All great things must first wear terrifying and monstrous masks in order to inscribe themselves on the hearts of humanity."

absurdity of it, but the longer I watched, I started to see how sad and

pathetic these people are.

Maybe I'll watch more later. I have a feeling that I may end up loathing these fools

8. I totally disagree with you
These guys all have various problems. Not being able to deal with loss is one of them. Not being able to do well in a social situation is another. And the one guy with 8 dolls, knows all too well that the dolls are a form of masturbation.

Everyone has a little quirk, from S&M, to cross dressing, to having 20 cats. If it is not hurting anyone, why must you make fun of them or say that they only want women they can control. Every one wants to connect with "some one", whether real or not. Hell, just take a look at the Tom Hanks character in Cast Away.

Everyone tries to make the best out of their situation. Those that don't force themselves on society like pedophiles or the Bush administration.

19. There are people here who are EXTREMELY dismissive.
Being dismissive of women's feelings about equal rights and sexism is one of the MOST sexist behaviors and yes, some of the most sexist men I have ever run into in my entire life I have run into here. Please. Think hard. Do I really need to point them out to you? They are probably the same ones you see as RW and/or centrist on other threads. They are not subtle.

21. Kicking Around These Poor Guys Makes You Feel Better?
They are not responsible for the sexism in this world, they aren't even considered worthy to be a part of it. So I suggest the original poster find her real target instead of being a victim blaming bully.

28. at the risk of seeming dismissive, which I'm not,
I've seen posts here that are less than fully respectful of gays, straights, African Americans, parents, whites, males, females, undocumented workers, vegetarians, meat eaters, sports fans, fans of a particular musical genre, (insert pretty much any group here) . . .

I recognize that some here (myself included) are disrespectful of one group or another from time to time. I'll pay closer attention to threads or posts that dehumanize women. I honestly didn't realize that it was a widespread problem--especially to the degree that there would be a need for threads reasserting the humanity of women.

I sometimes encounter groups here who have divergent (or even patently absurd) definitions of what constitutes (whatever)-ism. I've been in some pretty frustrating discussions about where lines are drawn between "normal" interactions between groups and interactions that cross the line into disrespect. If you ever catch me being disrespectful of women or any other category of person, please call me on it.

35. Some are rightfully dismissive of the idea that a war on
misogyny needs to be waged on DU to purge some fictitious horde of anti-women males here. There is no more need for "women are human" threads than "clean water is good" threads. No one is going to come along and say "I hate clean water! And I hate women! Give me some pollution and a bat for my wife!" It's bullshit.

12. Was shown on BBC American recently as "Love me, Love My Doll"
Two points:

1) The show mentions that there are about 3,000 dolls now across the planet, out of 3 billion men, so the audience for them is very small.

2) I see these men as very sad. They seem to be conscious, gentle people, with a total inability to connect with others, including women. No one in that movie has any friends to speak of either.

And yeah, if I should happen to run across such a man, I'm glad he has an outlet for it an not expect me, a fellow human being (that phrase again!) to fill an impossible void.

13. For everyone saying these guys are sad and pathetic,
let me remind you of this little tidbit showing that many women have their own issues with "human" men:

Eleven reasons a cucumber is better than a man:
(1) Cucumbers can stay up all night, and you won't have to
sleep in the wet spot.
(2) Cucumbers don't play the guitar and try to find
themselves.
(3) You won't find out later that your cucumber (a) is
married, (b) is on penicillin, (c) likes you -- but loves
your brother!
(4) A cucumber won't care what time of the month it is.
(5) A cucumber never wants to get it on when your nails are
wet.
(6) Cucumbers don't say "Let's keep trying until we have a
boy".
(7) Cucumbers won't tell you size doesn't count.
(8) A cucumber won't leave you for a cheerleader or an ex-nun.
(9) Cucumbers don't fall asleep on your chest or drool on the
pillow.
(10) Cucumbers don't care if you make more money than they do.
(11) With a cucumber, the toilet seat is always the way you
left it.

14. Um, a quote for you:
Davecat admits that Si-chan's personality is not without flaws. He thinks she might be manic-depressive because she's "relentlessly perky at times" but also, given the amount of time she spends in bed, prone to narcolepsy and laziness. But generally, she doesn't disappoint. Davecat imagines that she's open-minded, a bit sarcastic, an artistic intellectual who, were she real, would walk around with Sylvia Plath books under her arm and go out drinking and dancing with her girlfriends. In short, Si-chan is a girl who Davecat thinks he could never meet. "If I were to go to a bar and try some pick-up lines, the chances of coming home with someone like her are highly unlikely," he says. "No real woman seems to think I'm good enough for them."

He's talking about a doll...I think he qualifies for the sick and pathetic category. :puke:

But considering I just recently broke up with my girlfriend because because I found out she was cheating on me with a supposed friend of mine - and accused me of being "too nosey" because I invaded her "privacy" by finding out... well, I almost wish I had been dating a plastic doll instead.

29. There Are Some Women Who Would Rather Have Inanimate Men, Too.
Here's a link:

http://www.bachelorettepartydolls.com/bachelorette-party-dolls.html

"Inflatable Male Dolls - Life is more fun with Inflatable Men

Don't you wish that you could inflate and deflate a man at will? It would be so much more convenient if you could just make a husband appear and disappear whenever you want. Do you want the windows washed? Inflate him. Want the bed to yourself? Deflate him. Need a date for a company event? Inflate a man with a tuxedo. Need the lawn mowed and the bushes trimmed? Inflate a man with a toolbelt. Life would be so easy."

30. Is that the message you got?
That men wish women weren't human?

It's a little bit like this. In a Cathy cartoon, the saleslady got irate with Cathy and screamed "We are sick of hearing what women want only to have you 'poo-poo' it after we kill ourselves trying to provide it."

These guys are turning to dolls because they've been rejected (maybe for good reason, ewwww :scared: but still). Not because they are rejecting women, but because the women are rejecting them in spite of all their efforts. It's like my cousin said. An ex-girlfriend was telling him about how her new boyfriend bought her a car, and he scoffed 'heck, I bought you a house and that didn't make you happy.'

I put some money into a college account for my ex-girlfriend's daughter (not my kid and we never even lived together, but the kid, unlike her mom was crazy about me and I thought of her as a step-daughter even after her mom dumped me) Anyway, my ex said to make her mom the trustee because she didn't trust herself. When I explained that to the banker, she had to give the standard line 'well, it's tough being a single mom.'

I suppose that's true, but however tough it is, this woman, at least, thought it was better than being married to me.

Yeah, it's the men's fault. It doesn't take two to tango.
