How Close Are We To Themes of Movie "V for Vendetta"? |
|
Theme of religious conservative zealot's policy of total domination through fear.(Cancellor)
Theme of freedom through liberation of one's fear of death (Evey, heroine)
Theme of succesful vengence/ elimination of evil gov't perpetrators (V, hero)
Theme of successful uprising of the people.

4. I've seen it on television twice! It's both scary and hopeful. Try |
|
to find a DVD or tape, something. Well worth watching in my book.

2. I think we're through the first three and working on the most important: |
|
the last. I also think the second one is the most difficult. I'm almost sixty and could give my life knowing it would be a contribution to hopefully a better future for my children and future generations. However, it would be a much more difficult decision if I were younger.

Isn't that what soldiers do? Their ranks are normally occupied by the youngers after all.

10. Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated throughout England every Nov. 4th |
|
He was a most treasured Freedom Fighter in England 400 yrs. (approx.) ago.
Ohter themes the movie contained:
The ends justified the means. Strict curfews pretending to be "protecting" the people. Everything was kept secret and classified from the people All TV, radio, newspapers carried only fearful news 24/7 Virus spread was better than nukes/war as they would "kill the pople and keep the wealth intact." Virus' were spread through mandatory vaccinations. Mass graves of virus victims.
People were taken to detainee cells/camps w/ black bags over their heads in middle of night. Politicians told constant lies to cover up the truth. Surveillance was EVERYWHERE!!. Much talk of domestic "enemies" e.g homosexuals, anyone not christian, e.g muslims.
Just finished viewing this gripping/ all too parallel to life in USA video--brilliantly written by Wachowski brothers as a "futuristic" screen play....

16. I think Guy Fawkes Day is Nov. 5th. |
|
Remember, remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot.
I know of no reason the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
Isn't that how it goes?

I love that movie. There is just something about it that stirs the deep rebel in me. As someone who tries to be a pacifist it disturbs me somewhat to be so turned on by it but damn, I really liked that movie. Have not read the novel (gothic novel?).
Edit to add a t :)

20. The novel is very different from the movie (but, great)... |
|
It is basically about the Thatcherite Movement in England back in the 80's. The Wachowski Bros. adapted the idea and theme and "hero", but moved the time forward about 25-30 yrs.
I thought the relationship between V and Evey was a little twisted, and, and had a hard time seeing a terrorist as a hero (but, I reasoned that one person's "terrorist" is another's "freedom fighter".) I thought it was a gripping movie, and spot-on to what's happening now, and what could happen down the line.

who felt the same way about "Red Dawn".
There's probably a sub-set of them who are disappointed it didn't happen.

13. Scenes of Heroine, Evey, so brilliantly played by Natalie Portman, |
|
totally releasing her Fear of Death and becoming FREE-- (and experiencing a raising of her vibratory frequency, becoming invisible to a friend standing in line w/ her)-- is my immediate goal, as living with paralyzing fear of our EVIL In CHIEF/MONSTER IN CHIEF */ Cheney, is more than I can continue and stay healthy....
This movie was released in 2006 by Hollywood's Warner Bros. and becomes more meaningful by the minute.

"V" has just about everything right but for America, the problem is corporate fascists. They are a serious problem.

By the way I have V on DVD here at home and it's become my fall back movie on weekend nights. I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen V stick it to the rightwingers.

I wonder if network television will ever air it in its entirety?
So far, only people who have seen it in theaters, those who have bought the DVD, and/or those who have HBO have been able to see it. It would beinteresting to see it shown un-cut to a larger group of Americans. I just doubt that will ever happen.
