Philly Mayor and Guards Rescue Boy, Cat
Source: Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - The mayor and two of his bodyguards happened upon a house fire and ended up rescuing a cat, helping a victim and warning neighbors, officials and witnesses said.

Neighbor Dorothy Young said she saw the smoke Friday morning and went outside to find two children who lived in the house crying at the bottom of her steps.

Mayor John Street and two bodyguards, who had been walking to City Hall when they saw the burning home, rushed over to help, Young said.

The bodyguards carried a boy who suffered minor burns into Young's home and went into the burning house to rescue a cat.

I have to say, whether the Mayor is a Democrat or a Republican, this man is a hero in my book and a incredible human being for helping out.

I salute your Mayor Philly!

4. Yes, that's a bit beyond the job description, too.
I'm just going to point out that it was the bodyguards who did all the actual rescuing. So I wouldn't let the mayor, Democrat though he may be, put this one on his resume.

The bodyguards, however, should get something.

6. True, they went into the burning house,
but the Mayor didn't just stand around. He ran and banged on the doors of the surrounding houses, telling people to get out.

He is a true public servent.

residential neighborhood in Philly to smoke out the members of MOVE, a violent radical group/extended family. The whole block went up in flames.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOVE
The bomb did not significantly damage the rooftop structure, but did ignite several barrels of gasoline, starting a fire which destroyed the entire block and killed eleven people. Sixty-two houses burned to the ground; only Ramona Africa and Birdie Africa (aka Michael Ward) escaped alive. Six adults and five children in the MOVE house were killed.
The MOVE group was threatening to the working class neighborhood they lived in, and their neighbors had begged the mayor to do something, but the outcome was unfortunate indeed.

12. Street's a Dem.
They ( cons) tried to pull a smear against him too back in 2004. (I think he was up for relection then;) my attentiion was focused on Nat. Presidentaial & Local Me. election at that time.
But I survived the Rizzo Regeme in Philly back in the day! ( By buying a house in NJ!) LOL
