Former choir director of Livermore church killed

STOCKTON — A former choir director from St. Matthew's Baptist Church in Livermore was gunned down and killed last week in Stockton.

Dennis Turner, 39, who had moved to Stockton recently, was shot Tuesday on Milroy Court, a neighborhood just east of Interstate 5 near Benjamin Holt Drive. The shooting took place near his north Stockton home.

A 17-year-old boy also was injured in the shooting, the Stockton Record reported.

Turner was known for his booming voice and his ability to lead a church choir. His brother, Allen Turner, is pastor at St. Matthew's, where his father had previously served as pastor.
