Ex-Gonzales # 2 (Comey): Make Fitzgerald Attorney General !!!
<snip>

The former top deputy to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales suggested that Special Prosecutor and US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald should be Attorney General of the United States, according to a report in Bloomberg News.

"I think he would make a spectacular attorney general," former Deputy U.S. Attorney General James Comey told the news service's Patricia Hurtado and David Voreacos in a Friday article. "He certainly is one of the very best federal prosecutors in America."

Comey, who served as Deputy Attorney General from 2003-2005 under both Gonzales and John Ashcroft now works in the private sector with the Lockheed Martin Corporation. He recently re-emerged into public view when the Senate and House Judiciary Committees subpoenaed him to receive testimony about a hospital bed confrontation between Gonzales, then White House Counsel, and Ashcroft over a domestic spying program that Comey refused to certify as legal.

1. When the Democratic Party wins the Presidency in 08
this should be the first order of business.....Attorney General of the United States Mr. Fitzgerald. Yea...I like the sound of that.

5. Fitz is a Republican.
So being Attorney General for a Democratic president is not likely. But it would be a great statement of depoliticizing the Justice Department.

However, if they had gotten rid (or get rid of) Gonzales, Fitz would be a great replacement.

6. Patrick Fitzgerald is not a Republican
I'll donate $50 to DU for the first person that can provide documented proof (GOP party records or voting records, for instance,) that Mr. Fitzgerald is a Republican. IT DOESN'T EXIST. He has said REPEATEDLY that he specifically registered "Independent" in New York. When he discovered it was actually a party, he deliberately reregistered with "no party" affiliation. He did the same in Chicago.

H2OMan and I are tired of repeating, over and over, that no, he is not a Republican. BTW, James Comey says that HE is a Republican, but I'd be happy to have him as the Attorney General.

In the meantime, whomever names PJF as AG would have to have a cast iron stomach and be squeaky clean, because he wouldn't hesitate to go after them if they weren't.
