Interesting take on Conyers needing three more Dems for impeachment
I just got an email from a friend who was there when Conyers was in San Diego yesterday. He said at the very beginning of Conyers' talk he said something about us all needing to convince Pelosi that impeachment is on the table. Pelosi, Hoyer, and Reid are the three key Dem Leaders on the Hill….

So my friend thinks it's not just any three Congressmen. It's Pelosi, Hoyer, and Reid. :banghead:

1. Plausible--but who can say what Conyers might have been thinking?
Nothing to lose sleep over. I start listening when they stop speaking in cryptic language.

4. Well since my friend WAS THERE I thought his opinion would carry a little
more weight. I emailed him yesterday as soon as I heard about what Conyers had said in San Diego.

I guess we'll see tomorrow. I know I will be glued to cspan.

6. As I said, plausible.
I certainly hadn't considered your friend's interpretation, and find it interesting. But still entrail-reading.

2. Xavier Becerra is Assistant Speaker.
He held a town hall yesterday here in L.A. I did not ask any questions, but boy, one citizen after the other demanded impeachment. It was amazing. And there were no anti-impeachment voices to speak of. It was incredible.

I feel pretty certain he will be briefing others in the House. Also, I think they made a video of the town hall. When it is up on Becerra's website, I will try to provide a link. It was just astounding.

I had the impression that Becerra was expecting to hear about the war and immigration from the mostly middle class white crowd. But it was impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, veteran's issues and special group interest. Some other topics were discussed but the main one was impeachment. I really think he was very surprised.

The crowd was made up of voters from Becerra's district -- so it wasn't "outside agitators." You basically only knew about the meeting if you lived in a specific area or were on his e-mail list and lived nearby.

5. I don't understand why he'd need Reid
If the house impeaches, the Senate has no choice about whether to hold a trial.

17. Sounds to me like he doesn't need Reid
he needs 18 Republican senators.

20. sigh
This is in response to the theory that he needs Reid. If Conyers needs Reid, then he DOES need a senator.

That doesn't make sense to me, either.

But... if he IS for some reason requiring the support of any senator to proceed, it would make more sense to me that he need the support of 18 republican senators.

Reid can't block the trial if the House impeaches, so I don't understand why he needs Reid's support to proceed.

This whole story doesn't make much sense to me, and I'd like to hear Conyers himself explain what he said, rather than this third-hand report.

7. I'm hoping that's not what he meant
Anyhow, in case he did mean that, that's all the more reason to call Conyers tomorrow.

our habit of calling Senate reps "Senators" and House reps "Congressmen/women".

Conyers was being infuriatingly obtuse, causing the kind of confusion you're currently experiencing.

12. So why is Conyers being so obtuse about what he means by "3 Congressmen"?
Why is he making us guess as to his real meaning?

Is he just throwing us bones to chew on while he hides behind his own words doing nothing?

I have always had a lot of respect for John Conyers.

But this latest quote makes me angry at him. 3 more Congressmen signing on to Kucinich's bill to impeach Cheney? 3 more for his own prior H.R. 333? 3 more Repuke Senators might give us enough votes to convict according to his personal calculations? 3 Congressmen meaning Pelosi, Hoyer and Reid? WTF is "3 more Congressmen" supposed to mean.

Fuck that. I want action NOW!!! We the people deserve no less!!!
