A discussion on another board brought this memory back.
I remember watching this press conference in 2002 and being stunned that she would actually say this:
Steve, I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile. All of this reporting about hijacking was about traditional hijacking. You take a plane -- people were worried they might blow one up, but they were mostly worried that they might try to take a plane and use it for release of the blind Sheikh or some of their own people. (May 16, 2002)
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/05/20020516-13.htmlNo one could have predicted that they would use planes as missiles? Complete nonsense. We knew about Project Bojinka after Ramzi Yusef was caught and brought to justice in 1995. The details of that project had been public for almost seven years. How could someone so deeply involved in national security matters now know about it? Many of us had heard or read about that plot. Was she that uninformed when she became National Security Advisor or was she lying on May 16, 2002?
