Did everyone see "The Yes Men" on Bill Moyers Journal this week? Video link here... |
|
And Yes! They do show some of the "Survival Ball" video in this segment, which makes the few seconds it takes you away from DU completely worth it: < http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/archives/index.html> < http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/index-flash.html>

1. I love that type stuff. |
|
I liked the part that said that every thing is turned to capitalism as if that can fix the worlds problems. Some people really believe that is true yet I have always figured govt. 'business' was not set up for a profit but as a service to the real people who pay for it, the tax payer.

14. Not much pure in this world. Govt. have always backed business |
|
Even the Pilgrims had to repay for their trip and did set up a business to do it and I have read some of the profits stuck to their fingers. They never paid off the bill. Why do you think England went in to India? The corp. were not having an easy time so needed the Brits army to keep their power. History is full of this. If we just can keep it in some order we make out better.

but in my experience with capitalism it doesn't seem to make sense to bomb and invade your supplier in order to gain an edge on your competitors, then expect gratitude -- maybe in the mafia. Talk about predatory behavior.

18. I think the swing back is coming. It is always a swing thing |
|
The point is not to swing to far right or left and I think we have gone to far right to business. Now it will swing back. In every swing we both seem to hole on to some of our base thinking. This group in DC now seem to want to make every this for profit and I just do not think as Am. we will let the whole govt. move there. They are sure pushing it in my mind. When private corp. end up owning the city water and grave yards they have gone to far. You can be sure that if they own those things it will be for profit. Even the far right voters some times see the un-fair ness of paying taxes for a service then having to re-buy the same service as the CEO's make millions.

Funny but truly sad that people who should know better are so gullible.

4. I taped it on Friday and haven't watched but went to site just now and |
|
saw a snip. Incredible. Proves that you can sell an idea about anything...after the NeoCon and Wall Street Crazies have run wild the last 20 years. :wow:
Never heard of the "Yes Men" but can't wait to watch the whole show tonight.

5. Give some Recommends for this thread. Many DU'ers don't watch TV! |
|
This is a must watch...on line or even to read the Transcript at the site if you are on Dial Up.

13. A good Dem progressive I know was getting steaming mad |
|
while watching the first part of that show. She wondered what had happened to this good man, Bill Moyers, that he would put this on his show. As she was telling me about it, I was getting pretty pissed too, altho in sad resignation. She was SO happy that the Yes Men were really progressives. I thought it was wonderful, too. Wish I'd seen it...

16. The video is on-line at the links I posted in my OP. |
|
Some weeks, on-line is the only way I get to see the show, as my TWO local Atlanta PBS stations have conspired NOT to show it during Prime-time (Friday night) and some times not at all.
I got a really nasty message, here at DU a few weeks ago, from a person work claimed at Atlanta Public Broadcasting, who said I should quit my bitching about APB not showing it and GPB moving it to the least likely time anyone would see it, because (this person said) APB had made an agreement with GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting) not to show certain shows, so that GPB could show them exclusively, yet sometimes, GPB doesn't even carry the show! For several weeks, after showing the first one or two, GPB ran 3 hours blocks of "Anne of Green Gables" on Sunday Afternoon during the time slot they had relegated this show to, so I never know, week to week, if it's even going to be on.
Do you have a high speed connection? Because often, PBS has both a High bandwidth and a low bandwidth option.
